Mileage check

Hi,
Does anyone know what is the best procedure to check real mileage ( except dealer VIN look-up)?
What diagnostic tools are used?
Can the mileage number stored in the ECU be changed and altered via chip cuning tools ?

If this cars are diesel, than you can check odo on dpf mileage in ecu. In vw there is vehicle distance in engine ecu. Usually mileage correction do in dash and not in engine ecu. So you can try to check this parameters in engine ecu.

What if the dpf is disabled ?
I have checked with EDC 15/16 it returns 8 km
Parameters - u mean injectors. Yeah u can see the state, but i want to read real km data, not average condition
