Hi guy,

Got that cluster that have no backlight, no dic just stepper motor that initiate test... Checking the board I found 1 diode that give voltage on both side... Power to bench and use tweezer and got dic and some light... Could that diode give other bad components?
The capacitor don't seem to have no leak it's a diode 14/77
If any work with those often may tell me what else I should look at... Will order those diode as I don't have some.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191017/cfdd8be6acd8a1f2dc7b8713c0c18d51.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191017/f84bb182c42fd3185eec5d435b9571ec.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191017/db8a50114eba8cf208c27845bb27abf8.jpg

Hello friends,

After testing the diode it was fine... Test all capacitors they were find but on the circuit no 12V on the positive side of the those capacitor the stepper motor on pin 5 doesn't use those capacitor to get power... After testing and checking voltage I found the culprit I have to say that I saw like something that burn on the other side but it was like 3mm away from the last pin so I was doubtfull...but it was indeed that IC label U47 after removing that one I lost the short to ground.

Now I am wondering how would I found a replacement for that IC chip without having to find a donor of the same cluster? I look over the net and couldn't find even the spreadsheet for it?

I have another cluster from a F250 2004 it have a chip for the powerrail but it's labeled v54

I also add a view for the power circuit

I am trying to determine if the voltage regulator is really bad, I supply 12V to pin 1 and found that my output to pin 5 is 5V pin 4 is 2V and pin 2 and 3 have 0V. According to the datasheet the output should be 3.3V

The datasheet said it have short protection https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191020/c4a7fb9089dbc3c42461d00991298c8d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191020/93c1637e1c420eec5c85ded9c6debb99.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191020/dcd4f83545b4d95a1d3c0b39c177fd67.jpg

It's could be the wrong datasheet, those regulators can be 5V or 3.3V and the cluster works on 5V.

Pin 1 have 22 ohm resistance pin 3 have 0.2 ohms pin 5 have 390 k-ohm 2 and 4 are openlead. I think the IC is ok I will install it back maybe it's was a cold joint due to the overheating on the other side of the ground?

Did you ever find out if it was regulator or just bad solder joint?

Did you ever find out if it was regulator or just bad solder joint? It's wasn't the regulator... The processor was freezing 4 time on 5... i didn't have the time to get another cluster to compare the voltage since the customer was pressing to get is cluster back.

If I had another cluster I would of check the voltage of all components that are connected to the processor.
