Time runs out for would-be winner

The winning ticket earned more than ?1,000 a day in interest
Time has finally run out for a would-be EuroMillions Lottery multi-millionaire in Devon.

The prize of ?6,989,367 was won by someone in Devon in the draw on 28 September 2007.

The winner failed to claim the prize before the 1730 GMT deadline and the cash will now be donated to the lottery's Good Causes fund.

A National Lottery spokesperson said the person had "sadly missed out on this substantial amount of money".

"Unfortunately, I can confirm that the ticket-holder did not come forward within the deadline to claim their prize," the spokesperson said.

"We tried very hard to find the ticket-holder and it's a real shame that they have missed out, but there is still one winner - the nation."

Lucky star

The unclaimed prize from Devon has been earning interest at a rate of ?1,063 a day - with the full 180-days' worth of interest in the region of ?191,298.

That money, together with the ?6.9m will be added to the ?20bn already raised for the Good Causes through lottery ticket sales since 1994.

The winning EuroMillions numbers were 22, 30, 34, 35, 44; and the Lucky Star numbers were 4 and 5.

The winner matched the five numbers and one lucky star number.
