looking at getting a hot air soldering station, come across this one Aoyue 852A+ SMD Rework Station (http://www.pcb-soldering.co.uk/index.php?target=products&product_id=37) don't want a fancy one, but would like lcd control etc. What are Aoyue like? cheap chinky crap, or value for money but don't expect too much? anyone got any tutorials on using solder paste/flux? doing an 8 pin soic was hard enough with a standard iron :D

Just what you need mate ... although cheap and cheerfull it should do what you need ...

PSset it to max heat ... min flow ... then you won't blow all the surface mount components of the board ...And practice on a fcuked pcb .....

Hi, for that money it is very good tool. For car radio decoding, dashboard corection or airbag you dont need beter and more expensive tool.

Best regards
Vladimir

doing an 8 pin soic was hard enough with a standard iron :D

would be inclined to go a alocal computer shop and raid their bin.

Chances are it's just SLOW stuff, if you haven't already, just get basic psu memory etc, and get a mother board working, then unsolder a chip, play football with it, then re-fit and see if the pc works.

Also carboot sales, buy inexpensive electronic goods, eg toys and play with yourself, then that way you will know if you have ~~~~ed the chip removing and refitting.

as for soic, have skanked a few chip off boards, mainly customers car alarms, lol just grabbed the 'wang foo, ying-yang fip foo' hot-air thing out the back at M-H-M and got 3 chips off this way using long nosed pliers in approx 30 seconds start to finish, don't know if they still work!

enjoy and if you get the Donkey-Kong programmer, make sure you buy an soic clip!

i made my soic to dip adapter from a dip socket and an soic clip, can reconfigure the wiring for different pin outs too, works like a charm :)

The first one is what you need mate ... A desoldering gun is invaluable for removing through board components .. eproms and Display units .... LCD's ... ( especially for repairing Transit Displays ) the ones when only some of the digits light up.. Better all round package ... And at a reasonable price ....
