Hello guys,

i am interested in ecu data and the way how everything works.
i am a newbie and so my questions will be very Basic.
i already have a kess v2 and have read data of a edc16, i think nearly 2mb data size.

before i come to the Point when writing back data to my ecu, i wanted to generate a Full ecu read That makes it possible to Clone a 2nd Hand ecu That Fits To my ecu like the Original does.

is this possible With kess and the way i did it? (Reading through CAN)

If you want clone ECU, you need full read and full write ( mpc, flash, eeprom). Kess cant do it. You need KTAG, or other tool.

hello begi1,

thanks for your fast and detailed answer, this is exactly what i wanted to know.
in this case i will choose a ktag.

what exactly did i read with my kess? mpc, flash or eeprom?

you read only flash with kess even that is a partial read

hello chrisimerk,
thanks for info :-).

what belongs to kess reading:
where is the difference between reading in „CAN“ and „KLINE“?
does it end in having identical data?

Don't worry about kline and can..... Try with can if working, reading and writing speed will be faster, kline is slower... But always flash be same.

hello begi1,
thanks for info :-).

is it necessary to generate a full backup by bdm before working on the flash dump or not?

full backup always recommend and much safer, but is not necessary

depends on what type of ecu your working on some are safe to do over obd without full back up hoping that you have over 12v power supply your laptop battery is charged and the file your writing is ok but ecus that are locked, Tprot active then you have to have a full bdm back up there ok to read but never flash back without full backup
but remapping any ecu there is always a risk so if your not right sure then best bet would be full backup

thanks for info.
it is a edc16 ecu, car daily driven.
i think i will start with a bdm full read and clone a 2nd hand used ecu, so i always have a working ecu as backup.
