Hello kaotik world!

I currently drive a 2012 Megane 1.9dCi and I pretty much love the car, except for the sluggish Diesel engine and the very bright speedo. Decidedly, I couldn't do much about the engine, but I read in a few places I could swap the bright "digital" speedo for a much les brighter "analog" one from a lower Megane model. So I purchased a (cheap) 2012 Megane 1.5dCi speedo off fleabay and proceeded to make the swap.

As some might expect (well, silly me, I didn't!) this did not go very well. The needle indicators all seemed to be working, but an airbag warning light popped up on the center console and the speedo display was showing a red "error prog" message and nothing else. The stalk buttons and the dimmer wheel also seemed to not work. Disappointed, I mounted the original speedo back in. And now, surprise-surprise, this one was also not working properly anymore. Granted, the Airbag light did go away, but now even the original speedo persistently shows "Service required" and the ODO has jumped up about 500000km.

I took the car to a local Renault garage, where they told me the following:
- there is no way to make the analog speedo work on my car because of different car configurations
- the ODO had been copied from the fleabay speedo into the car's ECU and then over to the original speedo when I put it back in; this would mean that both the ECU and speedo need to be editetd to go back to the real mileage (and they said I need to go all the way to some specialist in Lucerne, couple of hours away from where I am now to do that).
However, they looked as though they were way more familiar with hammers and wrenches than with computers, so...I would think there are solutions.

Some more info:
- the original speedo is a Continental, part number 248100342R (HW 03, Sw 7.00), the replacement is a Johnson Controls 248107963R (--B V7.05)
- the car is a Phase one MK3, the fleabay speedo is (presumably) from the same phase judging by the date printed on them (05.01.12 and 03/01/12, respectively) (although I am not 100% sure if one or two since in 2012 both phases had been sold).

I have an ELM327 Bluetooth adapter and a Green PCB clone of CAN Clip. I am hoping that using DDT4 Sw or something similar I could get the "analog" speedo to work properly on my car. Wondering if these tools could be used, or if anyone close to the Swiss-Austrian Rhine Valley area could help.

Many, many thanks in advance!

Note: First post, please don't be too harsh on me!

you would need to correct km in abs pump and speedo..or block sync from abs in the cluster and adjust to correct value

Thank you for your answer, much appreciated! Is it posible to do that with the tools I have, or do I need something else?
Also, is there any chance of actually getting the "analog" speedo to work properly on my car?
Please pardon the n00b questions!

no your tools are not sufficiant you need eeprom and microcontroller programmers
