Depends on what you want to do?watch tv?stream to a pc?how much you want to spend?

There simply isnt a best box. The best box as DD suggests will depend on what you want it for. If all you want is cheap no hassle tv there are many options, recoding likewise and now you even have hd boxes.

Personally, I prefer a ?50 dreambox but they aint everyones cup of tea.

yeh as the other posts have said it depends what you want it for and want to spend

is it just for cable? or do you want more

dreambox 500 can be picked up very cheap but as a noob i personally found them a bit complicated(but getting there now thanks to help on here)

personally if its just for cable and you want something easy to setup and look after the eurovox is a piece of piss 10 minutes and your up and running

The Itgate TGM220 would be my box of choice...a little expensive but well worth a buy.
Otherwise I'd go for the dream 500.

this was a really good post im really new to cable and sat as well
i guess as we can both see there is no 'best' box it all comes down to those factors that were listed above.

i currently dont own a cable box but when i do get one it will be a dreambox they are pretty tough to set up but will last you a lot longer than the other stuff mentioned- well thats what ive heard

im going to keep an eye on this thread and see how it develops

TGM220 and TGC200 work exactly like your dm500, enigma running box, with a nice PLF army following now..
except you have component outputs ,, and TGM220 version has USB port for external Hard drive.
Best picture quality around SD, great sound, and superior tuner to any 500.
oh and Hypercam

I've got a 500C and it's nevr let me dowm (Jockland) and I've redoe a starview which seems to be good as well, so what's the use of a DB 500S if you can get a technomate motorised rec and a Dragon + infinity USBn?

As everyone has said it is down to personal taste. I used to have a Eurovox Max V which I didn't have any problems with as far as watching tv was concerned. Being a bit of a techie i got bored with it and sold it to buy a Nokia DBOX2 - Absolutely brilliant - as I can mess about with it.
