passat b6 need help cant find 8 pin chip

i have opend the speedo and ther are two 8 pin chips but non of them say 93c on them can anyone tell me what to do

Take out the needles. you will find it under the white plastic. what year is the car?

If you want to change mileage you must program the memory part of the processor, but before you can do that you must program the 8 pin soic eprom 24C32 to enter the service mode. Needle removal not needed, you can solder some wires on back of cluster to read and write 24c32. Then you can program the mileage through diagnostic. Good luck.

Sorry mate ..The eeprom is 24c32... And Miconas MCU ...If you do not have R250s programmer then you Cannot do it .....

It's more complicated, the passat 2008- can't be done with R250S, the passat 2006/2007 can, the 2008- board is different with NEC processor (no small board like golf 5 anymore), and there are 2 type of boards. They almost look the same but connections are different. Sent me the picture of your board and I sent you the pin connections (photo). You only have to solder 4 wires to read the 24C32. If you want to programm the 24c32 direct then you have to remove the needles.
In service mode you can change settings, like mileage. You must first enter service mode then you can adjust mileage by OBD2 if you have the right tools.

You have a small board, so old cluster I see in your message, you can use the R250S sorry for being blind :-).

Sorry for that, but if you ever get a 2008/2009/2010 or CC version with new NEC board, tell me, I can give you the solder points and sent me the dump to get you in the service mode.

I thought this was a serious forum :laugh:, even the great Enigma can't do this just by OBD, only after entering the service mode. Just like DP3, Repsoft.

Sorry mate, there is no way tacho universal can do your car.
You need a R250S and I advise you before programming to make a backup of the 24c32 on the small board. Or buy a VAG DASH PROG and program by OBD.

my friend i dont think you have read this thread properly, you need r-250 made by rosfar (or a good clone), then you can edit mileage, if your speedo is service mode one then you need to read the eeprom, post the dump and our friend Tachonow will edit in his software and giv you a dump so you can program it back and it will make your cluster in2 service mode

The chips themselves are less than 50p BUT , the data on them is priceless.

Hope you read chip before losing it m8?????

the problem is when i found it my little one damaged two of the legs on it, and I don't have the data from the chip, I de-soldered it from the board and had it on my work bench, my 2yo sneaked in to room and damaged it and lost it, i found it but damaged ..... :(

by the way, i found one online but its a dip not surface mount. can I find a dump from another cluster? Would it work? Can the car run without the chip?

use a fibre pen and rub away where the legs where, use lots of flux, blob solder onto where the legs where and join onto pads, read eeprom anddump data into new eeprom, DIL size should work if you can somehow manage to find a place for it and get the legs to touch the pads (in a word NO) :)

and no, the car wont start without dash

The gods smiled on me today!
I found a dump (and loaded on the DIP) that reads in KM (I need MI) and its the wrong number of km buy at least the car starts but now all the lights on the cluster are on, like airbag, brake crusie and couple others. IF the dash was on the car but minus the chip would it run? I turns on now with the DIP chip wired up.
