I use Gemini 4.2 with the VLC Frontend Plug-in.
Is this Plug-In compatible with DK images?

If so you could try that?

People seem to have problems with it, but it works a treat for me!

Hi Smirnoff,

Yes it lets me play AVI's direct from my mac.
In fact it lets me play anything VLC plays. (avi, wmv, mov etc)

You can even set up what are called server sets. This allows you to play movie files from up to 4 different locations on your PC.

You have to have VLC running on your PC for it to work and there is some initial set up.

I used this guide to set it up on my Mac.

How to DBox - VideoLAN Wiki (http://wiki.videolan.org/How_to_DBox)

(Hope it was OK to post this!!)

I use it all the time. I can just play my DVDrips etc straight through my dreambox.

Yeah it streams the file as you watch.
It takes about 20 - 30 seconds to load a 700mb file.

You can pause, rewind and fast forward once it's up and running.

It works really well if like me you have loads and loads of films in avi format.

lv used somthing close but the one l used converted to a file as u watch . so if the converter was slow u would get to a place where u had to wait . so l gave up

No it doesn't create a file it just streams it through HTTP (Port 8080 I think)
You should give it a try!

Like I said before I'm not sure if it is compatible with DK images but it should be. Gemini and DK images are both Enigma based aren't they??

I could try to get it from the Gemini server if you'd like?

Heres the plugin's.

the update file in each plugin, will need editing to the DK IMG. (File structure is different) plugin folder

I've zipped them up to a RAR file

1, vlcf.tar.gz
2, movieplayer.tar.gz

OK been playing with this, Installed VLC frontend, you need to install manually and conf is done through the web interface.

errors do show untill web interface is configured

Not getting to far just yet, but haven't the time at present.... got a feeling it need the vlc plugin also.

But i'm having problems getting this to work correctly.

will try again the tomorrow.

Added more plugins

1, VLC.tar.gz
2, Jukebox.tar.gz

just in case some else may want to have play also.

Hi all,

I'm not too sure how set up on DK differs from Gemini but if I can help in anyway I can.

When using the Gemini image, once the plugin is installed it is a case of altering the VLCF Original.xml file in var/tuxbox/config (I hope that's the right path! I'm at work so I can't double check)

Once the.xml file is set up to your PC's IP Address and the server set path is altered to look in the correct place on your PC. It is just a case of making sure VLC on your PC is open and setup as per the guide I posted.

Hope this helps! Like I said if I can help I will!!

Used the plugins from PB site, it don't work correctly, go to the point it loads the film to 100%, then it crashes out as if something is missing in the IMG or the plugin may not be loading correctly? you was right by editing the .xml.

Oh well just maybe Devilfish might look at this in th next update.?

The Gemini 4.2 is this OK to use with the clone DM500?

Hi Birkenhead,

Shame you can't get it to work on DK Image!! Like you say maybe Devilfish could look at it. He seems to be our resident genius when it comes to all things dreambox.

Yeah Gemini 4.2 is OK on clone DM 500c. I have a clone and it works just fine.

Finally got this to work.

The only problem now! it isn't showing the movie list as a filing system! its blank! nothing?
Yet, if i move the button on the remote up/down at the bottom of the page (on the TV) it show the movies titles. plays fine.

how i did it... its confusing, but i loaded Gemini 4.2.IMG into the temp, renamed it to root.cramfs, installed it via software updates (Main Menu), tested the plugin worked fine.

Then placed the DK.img into the temp, renamed it to root.cramfs, installed it via software updates (Main Menu). bingo everything back to normal

tested plugin working plugin VLC frontend.

Now the Gemini IMG must of installed something at was missing in DK IMG, some were in the var folder, what in it or been added i dont know.

Updated, now working 100%, Full listing and everything, must say it works better than on the dbox2... when on the dbox2, on occasions it would buff.... freeze for a sec or two, now it smoother better and faster, the buffing on the dbox2 is because the CPU @67mhz struggles at time to handle the streaming, on the 500C it much better and faster.

The list problem was because the icons was placed in the wrong folder, the correct path is as follows /var/tuxbox/config/enigma/pictures/vlcf/

Very happy chappy.

Nice One Birkenhead!!

I'm pleased you got it working!!

Maybe now I can give DK Image a go? The only reason I use Gemini is for this plug-in.

Hi there. I've been using VLC frontend plugin on the DK image since I installed it. (I was previously using it on Gemini 4.4) It works great for me. The only thing to note is that it seems to prefer VLC version 0.86 running from PC. The latest version of VLC seems to run into issues. Also remember once you've amended the vlcf-original.xml file with your own server settings to re-name and save it as vlcf.xml in the config folder. Hope that helps!
