Dodge Ram 2017 fobik, dash message, key in ignition

Hello guys,

Dodge Ram 2017 (2014-2018), with one working fobik key.
pcf7961 GQ4-53T
Need to program a spare.

I noticed, that after removing the org key from the ignition, a message on the dash appears.
Key in ignition, and clearly there is no key in the ignition.
Locking the door, dash goes to sleep, then message goes away.


Could there be something wrong with the lock?
Did this happen, whilst reading pin with obdstar?

The owner bought the car, with some exterior damage, has not yet driven it, and is not sure, if the message key in ignition whas there before.


I will visit this car, next week, hoping to solve this, and a the spare key.
Which, for some reason did not succeed today.
Not with launch, and not with Obdstar.

Sofar i figured out, that Dodge stores keys in the wcm, wireles controll module.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks guys

Did you check for aftermarket remote starter?

I dont think that there are aftermarket remote start kits for these. Only a oem that comes with 2 new fobiks with the extra remote start button.
Here there is no extra remote fob, and the original key does not have a remote start button on it.

I have found 2 forums, where they discus the same issue.
During this dash, key in igntion, they cannot use the remote.
So i need to check the remote fucntion on the car,

American Dodge Ram fobik of that vintage 2014- 2018 is For Ram only- no interchange with with other Fobiks- might have something to do with your problem.

This is all the info from the fobik i ordered.

I Read the org key, 433, with 7961.
So i figured, it is ok.

I Will open up org key, to check key partnumber to be sure.

Reason I ask is because I had similar issue when programming a key for a Dodge ram w/ fobik that had immo bypass dball2 (can remote starter)
wasn't aware that it was installed and had me running in circles
there was no remote start button on key
and had no aftermarket fob
it worked by hitting the lock key 3 times and it would detect the can bus message and then start the car via can bus

Yes this
Its a 80$ remote start kit
Lock x3 for start

But these wcm are prone to failures
Especially when they get dirty
You may just have sticky nubs in ignition

Tap with screwdriver handle see if it turn off
Its same as key buzzer in keyed ignition

if you code online then it will be clear.
I program almost 10 keys never have same problem.
But when i change wim or wcm i code onlline,

No aftermarket remote start kit.

Soon as i plug in obd, turn ign on..
Turn ign off,. Key in ignition messages appears
And remote stop working when the message is active in the display.
Soon as I unplug obd launch, the remote works again.
Whene i then close the door, the dash goes to sleep.
Then the message key in ignition is gone.

I Will get the Chrysler online j2534.
Then try again.

Yes, did the tapping thing. That did not help. I consider taking the lock out, to dismantle, inspect and clean.

However, this message, appears to be more related to the obd plug being in use.



Only dtc, door module config incorrect. Still need to add the new mirrors with turn light to the bcm.
No aftermarket alarm, no towbar module, no aftermarket radio.
Still suspicious, about the pin reading, could this have messed up the lock?
Or did the car have this issue before.

So reading the car, with the org Chrysler online tool might reveal more.

Yesterday, the owner replaced the ignition lock.
Used part, with the same partnumber.

Car started without programming the seconhand lock, and problem message key in ignition is fixed.

However, trying to program a key with launch failed.
Ignition not in locked state.

My three day Tech authority expired, so i will try 1 time with obdstar.
If this failes, i will buy me a tech day.
