View Full Version : 2000 VW Beetle - need change mileage

Hello friends
I have a 2000 Volkswagen Beetle
I installed used cluster to fix Immobilizer issue.
Car now starts and runs, keys adapted fine.
The only thing left is to write the correct mileage to the used replacement cluster.
I could not do it with VCDS because I guess it can only write mileage to clusters with less than 100km (basically new)
Is there any way to correct mileage?
Original mileage is 120,000 miles. Replacement cluster has 307,000 miles.
Thanks for your help
Edit: can I avoid desoldering and soldering chips?

Hi Do you have a programmer for micro 912D60?
I only have vvdi prog right now .
I waiting for the following in the mail;
XGecu t56
Upa
Bdm100
& xprog-m
I’m hoping someone would chime in telling me which programmer can work with 912d60.
Or maybe telling me exactly how to write the correct vin to the used cluster .
Thanks for clarifying that i need a programmer for 912d60, as my google searches weren’t producing hits .

Upa is coming from China. I’m in USA and I ordered it yesterday. That would be great if vvdi prog reads it. I will check the list right now. Thanks

Thank you for that but Im not prepared to spend over $5,000 for a tool/job I probably won’t see again. That enigma tool looks real cool but I can’t see myself using it again as of now. Unless that diagram applies to my vvdi prog.. but I don’t think vvdi prog supports this chip.
I’m looking at carprog right now.

I tell you what each cable is so you can use it with any programmer, not only with a enigma

Hey chris, I’m trippin.
So in my vvdi prog, when I go to 912d60 unsecured. The diagram only shows which pins to connect to on the 112 pin mcu. And when I ohm out those pins to the bdm points you provided from enigma , I’m getting over 20k ohms . I followed the pins and see where they led and I found other points to solder onto, but they’re smaller. I’m just wondering if you or anyone else could shed light on correctly connecting to and reading this out. I mapped the pins according to vvdi prog connection diagram . See attached pics.
According to you and enigma:

According to vvdi prog:

Me referencing vvdi prog and following the traces:

Which would be the best way to connect ?
Thanks!

ok so i gave it a shot using your reference, chris.
did i read this correctly?
this is the old cluster.
mileage should be ~193,260km/120,137mi
i thought i would practice on the old cluster.
can anyone tell me where the mileage is stored?
thank you

Your file is good. Mileage is stored in the yellow area (click on the picture):

Brilliant. Thank you. Not sure exactly what I’m looking at but I don’t see where exactly it is within that yellow area? I’m trying to change the mileage to 0 or something below 100km so I can set a new value with VCDS. Care to share how I can translate this?

wow, thank you. this was read off the old cluster. so i have questions...
if i write that to the new (used) replacement cluster, would that be ok? or do i need to read the replacement cluster and post that file here?
also, if i write one of those files to the (used) replacement, will the pin code be transferred over as well? i have pin for both old and replacement. so i just want to be sure what to write in my notes.

Thank you, chris781 for identifying the mcu, telling me my vvdi prog will read it, and mapping out those bdm points. Helped me a great deal. Successful read; successful write.
Thank you, jomberykaso for verifying that my read was good, and helping zero-out the mileage. I was able to successfully write a new value to mileage with VCDS after loading your 0km dump.
I learned a lot with this trial.
Thanks to you both again and to this community.
