Start Locksmith business...

I have done many programs keys which customer bring OEM key.. I like to get into cutting key and buy keys provide to customer, I am in USA. which key machine is recommended, do I need to go class for this type of things. I see Ninja machine they look really good but I never have done any key so I don't know. Usually where to buy keys from Domestic , Asia, Euro cars? .. Thank you any input helps.

Thanks I have read some threads they are old. I am already on the road and program keys. I have many progammer already . I just need a cutting mechine newest and do most in USA region. You really want to start working as locksmith to get experience with key cutting , pick up the lock and etc. It is not that machine do all for you.

Thanks, I am already have customer only program keys and need new keys. The most important for me right now is that. Provide new key and program to all lost key or add key. The next thing I like to learn is re-code ignition cylinder.

That is the point I told you, you have customers but not knowledge . Only way to get knowledge is experience which takes time. Doing this for customers out of nowhere can cost you a lot .
Picking lock is not something that you learn over night . There is a people that has 10 or 20 years experience with that and still struggle sometimes for hours to pick lock.

heard USA was worse than UK for a startup ... but if your still around in 5 years then fair play.
Most of the customers you say u have ....are only interested in undercutting the existing locksmiths.
Which leaves you with less money for wages and re-investment
- World is a tough n unpleasant place it's either price or reliability a business will use you. Public is another matter -down to advertising and price.



sure you'll get help from here ... but remember even USA has minimum wage. And you will struggle with lack of skill n kit in beginning

Actually had this happen one time kinda funny story
Friend was trying to change the shell on his key and said it didnt even work anymore
i took a look at the board and notice he somehow knocked off the coil
didnt have any tools with me so i told him i can fix but id have to do it some other time
he thought i couldnt actually fix it, and i was just blowing smoke,
so i find some really thin stranded copper wire from a USB cable, and wrap it around a Q tip, cut the Q tip to size and wrapped the wire around the solder joints sticking out
he used it for a week until i made him a new key, and i got to feel smart for a little while

Forget kits, machines, until you have two things in mind. You are going to do the honest thing every time, and you will do exactly what you say you will do. If you can't do it don't offer it. The shops in my area, the so called reputable ones even, just can't keep an appointment. If you can't get these little things right, you're going to just waste money buying tools.

I have learned things in my life if you really want to make money you want to learn how to open car doors with lishy tools and cut keys you only need small investment I know someone in our area gets call few time daily for 50 bucks each car, imagine that's 3 cars 150buks a day for a simple work, but I can tell you he can open any cars and vans doors in under 5min and even the AA call him 24/7.
