1. Use Google before adjust any odometer
2. Read all Pdfs of model you want to change
3.When Tacho shows not correct old value don't change anyth.
4.Be careful when changing VW audi skoda seat after ca.98' via obd connection
5.Make backup files if it's possible
6.Don't use it for bmw cas,mb ezs,any smart models

This is most cheap solving of your problem:
Repair and Update KIT for Tacho Universal / Diga Consult (http://www.fjetech.com/repair_and_update_kit_for_tacho_universal__diga_co nsult.html)

Also there was some solution with holding "0" on start up.
Something like holding this button over 30 sec. I'm not so sure, because before I find this I was burned mine 2 devices :(
But you can try. If it works for you, so you have to find your exact ver and FIX prograv ver.

For getting out of the SYNC Mode u need to reprogram the dumps inside the IC11,IC12 &24c02 by using the EEPROM Programmer

LOL I too have Tacho Universal 2008 and find it a very handy tool, i agree too many people think it is as simple as connecting and making money.. Dont worry they'l find out when they have to fork out on new instrument clusters for customers and go through trying to start car again :) :)
