Hello everyone on DK, i have a chevy sonic with a cluster mileage issue. when I open the ignition switch, it shows the mileage and changes back to ------- dashes. the previous shop had replaced the cluster and used BCM. that had not worked for them, so they put everything back, original. So, we ordered the new BCM and reprogrammed and reconfigured it. again, the same. the bcm has the correct mileage, but the cluster shows 0km. when it came in, it was showing both places the correct mileage. but would switch it back to the dashes right away. i reprogrammed the instrument cluster. nothing has changed. the car has the original cluster and a new bcm. when it came in, the bcm and the instrument cluster had the same mileage. when i hade programmed the new bcm, now the bcm has the correct mileage and the cluster has 0km in the ECU identification section. now, when i open the ignition switch, it is showing dashes all the time. i even tried to reprogram the ecm, but shows it has the latest calibrations so no need to reprogram it. the other shop had tried to swap the cluster and the ecm and no luck. so, everything on this car is the original. can anyone help me to figure out this issue????? the problem has started from swapping the ecm, some sort of no start diagnosis, which was wrong diagnosis by the other shop, and everything went crazy from there.

Global A structure, swapping in a used module can brick any number of other modules.

NEW modules, not used ones, new from the dealer and SPS programming. No idea which ones will be needed.

If it was me, I would walk away from it and let the dealer handle it.

the bcm was from the dealer, and SPS programming, up to date. i really would like to get this repaired. appreciate the help.

You may need a new dash and programming.

Once a module is damaged by swapping modules, it is bricked and needs replacing. Very few people in the world have the capability to virgin the Global A dashes, and they will not share any info, nor do it by dump.

Would be nice to know how this all started.

Interesting, the Sonic 93c86 dash files that I found bear a lot of resemblance to the Insignia. After a little web surfing, both vehicles have a history of displaying dashes after a low or dead battery.

Read the dash 93c86, save it, then apply the Insignia fix and see if that helps.

Probably because your original file was read byte swapped, so of course it would not work.

What programmer are you using?

xprog programmer

Well, you are doing something wrong when reading, and I have no idea if it writes back normal or byte swapped.

A properly read file will have the VIN displayed normally as 1G1J not G1J1

I haven't sent you anything except the fix instructions, but you need a good read with the VIN in the correct order before you apply it.

rtbdiagnostic file was all wrong, he applied a fix to byte swapped file and edited the VIN to normal, but the rest of the file was byte swapped. See the problem?

are you positive when you put the bcm in and program it with tis2web that you enterd the correct miles as the cluster had ive had that happen before that's what happens when wrong miles are put in

yes, i had checked the data in cluster and bcm and they were the same, now, on the new programmed bcm. i have the correct miles but the cluster stays 0 mile, and ----- dashes instead of mileage.

Hello, so i wrote the file back, 16bit, and now some other issue came up. gauge is inoperative, and where the KM is, it shows CODE XX, posting the picture of the cluster. and if i press anything on the menu list, the display goes blank, darkens to a point that can not see anything. if cycle the ignition switch, it shows normal again.

hello, i have tried your suggestion and still the same, it shows only dashes. no changes at all. would swapping the cluster with a new one from the dealer would fix the issue?
