GmapTool is a simple program that can deal with img files. It is GmapTool,
you can get it here: http://w15.easy-share.com/12120771.html
First copy your maps to PC and make a backup copy.
Gmaptool can show some details of this file:
>gmaptool -i gmapprom.img
On last lines you can find product and family id:
F: PID 1, FID 197, City Navigator Europe NT v9
FID 197 in hex is 00C5. You need to put this 2-bytes number into typ file, exactly at offset 2Fh-30h, low byte first, so it goes C5 00. Use some hex editor for that.

i'm doing this for a friend. He said his sat/nav is asking for 2009.1 update.
I'm trying to download the files that devilfish put through rapidshare but it's a bit slow and only 2 a day for free users.

1. download map
2. run WinRar and extract files
after this u should get GMAPSUPP.IMG)
3. copy on:
A) (device) change name on GMAPPROM.IMG and put into root folder /Garmin
or
B)(SD card) on SD card in to Garmin folder

U can make yours own maps!!

download Gmaptool to set up map,

hey man i did just what you said and it tells me now that no maps on file on the unit garmon 260w. not it dont work at all with any maps...what did i do wrong. on the garman the name of the maps was different then the one you tolds me to name it to. any ideas how to get it back up working...thansk

OK MOVED IT TO THE garmin in garmin folder and then renamed it gmapprom not with the .img on it...just gmapprom and it boost up and says no deatailed maps found that support routing the nuvi cant be used without them? the name of the file in the garmin foiolder befor the oem image was called gmapbmap shall i name the image that name and see if it works nw?

when i did web update it gave me text and voice updates options but not fore nglish or amreican? only britsh english? and its still dead...you have msn man maybe you can walk me through getting this back to life i hope...i use this baby daily

For the Garmin City Navigator North America NT 2010.10 map I did as instructed but the map doesn't show up in "maps". Also, what are the other files in the download? It has: gmap3d; gmaptz.img; a jcv file; and hashtab.

Format the SD card and then make a new folder named GARMIN on the card and then copy unlocked map to Garmin folder. If map isn't unlocked you have to get the serial # of the SD card and use a key-gen to make an unlock key code.

Also 2010 maps are year old. New maps are 2011.1 Came out 4-2010

For those having trouble with the images, I think the folder on the SD must be "garmin" not "Garmin"

Try that and report to help others.

Here I have Nuvi 660 and 1300. Maps on 1300 in internal memory are placed in hidden folder ".System". For 660 it is standard in Garmin folder. I tried with SD card and it is OK If you give name to folder Garmin and place the file gmapsupp.img. Also discovered that you can use both files gmapsupp.img and gmapprom.img on internal memory at the same time, so If you have some free space you will not need SD card to split the maps (for example City Navigatior (gmapsupp.ing) and SCG Route (gmapprom.img)).

Hi need help formated my 2g sd card to fat 32 then made a folder and named it garmin capital g then lower case the rest then dropped the 2010 map ito it, renamed the map gmapsup.img in small case letters.The problem is when i switch my garmin nuvi 310 on i wait till the main screen comes on then i press the spanner then i press map then map info and it is not there the only one showing is the one on my garmin itself.Why cant i get the folder up.

IMG UNLOCKED - Just copy "gmapsupp.img" to SDCard (4GB) -> folder \garmin or to Internal Memory (in this case rename "gmapsupp.img" to "gmapprom.img"). For new models i.e. nuvi 1200, 1400, etc, the folder should be "map" instead of "garmin"

Am just trying to get the 2012 maps onto my sd card for my nuvi 310 deluxe. I've changed the file name as teerak2uk suggested on post further up. but still i'm on 2009 map's now this maybe a really dumb question but do i need to remove the maps from internal storage.

no need for an sd card with this one remove the file in the garmin "gmapprom.img" and rename the downloaded file from "gmapsupp.img" to "gmapprom.img" and replace ;)
