Hi all,
Is there anyone out there know anything about Honda 5hp
engines?
I have a compressor which is Honda powered which has started to play up.
At first I thought it was fuel but everything is clean,
It starts ok will run for 1 to 5 minutes then what sounds
like a backfire & cuts out, I can restart it immediatley
again it runs and cuts out!
I tried a different Carburettor off a Honda generator
but the same fault occurs.
heres hoping..............mintoe

if its anything like a briggs and stratton engine check your magneto gap. i usually check with a piece of paper to reset. run some sea foam in it. small amount in gas and dump it into the carb while running around 2-3k rpm

Thanks for the replies,
The unit has electronic ignition,
I was wondering about the oil level may be causing it
although it doesn't look low,Ive just found a user manual to download so I'll check the oil grade.
All the best .............mintoe

if some body says other then fine, but the word on the street is it only needs "an eggcup" full of oil to stop the "oil guard" cutting in.
just unplug the willy and fanny see if it cures it, dude

As you are good enough to report back on your Omega (phoeey) thread don't mind drivlling on.
try a sparking plug, if no good try runing with the air filter off and when it dies squirt some easy start to prove/disprove lack of fuel.
Next if no good would be remove the cowling and check for chaffed wires, then disconnect all the kill switches and retest, if you need to stop in wn emergency, put the chock on and fuel off and hope for the best.
DO NOT run the engine with out the cowling as this cools the engine, but having said that susspose you could get an air compresser, lol and blow it cool with airline
If turns out to be the igntion pick up, suggest looking on ebay for one and/or looking for a seized engine cheap off ebay for the pick up
