you don't have to patch it, just read and write boot mode

so just read it in boot mode mod the file and write back is it that simple does the ktag take care of tprot on the modded file when writing back

Ktag you choose protocol 165 read and write safely. TPROT in this driver is only for writing via OBD but you can also use MPPS tricore choose unlok file option you save the corrected file and write MPPS so I did recently and everything works

this could help. edc17 via boot mode read and write was always safe for me.

Ok so let me get this right i can read the car in boot mode and mod the file and write back to the ecu leaving tprot on job done

and if i wanted to flash via the obd port i have to disable tprot in boot mode am i right ??

so tprot removal is just to enable obd writing but u dont have to remove tprot if i want to flash in boot mode

EDC17CP20 works on protocol 165 you don't have to worry about TPROT as you read and write in BDM ...
You can also Ktag check yourself, choose the VAG EDC17 TPROT protocol and Ktag will tell you what to do next, but it will be the wrong protocol.
How do you want to do it by obd you have to unlock the file you read MPPS V18 save, open MPPS tricore, choose unlok file, save and you can save it. The safest will be a Ktag as you've never done MPPS before

does this apply to all ecu's with tprot no need to worry about it if i flash in bdm only unlock if wanted to flash in obd

Yes, that is how i was understanding it but still I was not able to flash by KESS clone with TPROT disabled at a EDC17C46 ECU (CFGB engine). I didn't spent much more time on it and always used KTAG on this ECU because it always works.
Someone on cartechnology board wrote that KESS protocol 501 worked for writing EDC17CP20. He had SW 1037563957. You could give it a try. But you maybe know its always better to have a full backup.
