Hello!

Did a spare key for a Mercedes E320 w211 2003 in november. Now the customer complain over two things:

Some times the key won't turn in ignition/EIS. I think this could be because the key I sold was bad or the EIS is bad.

BUT

He is also complaing over that while he is driving, suddenly the car loses power and he has to stop, take the key out and start again (then the car work normaly). This do not sound like a key/eis related issue to me. Do any of you have any idea? Could this problems be related?

Key i programed with AVDI is a Chinese aftermarket key, that have caused some problem to other cars in the past.

Yes of course is key problem - also if the rear left tyre is flat is the key problem

About the won't turn is possible faulty key

About engine stop I don't think that is key related problem

Like Manta1600 said, engine losing power is not related to key or EIS. He could have blamed the rear lights not working on the key as well that way.

:courage: Some clients have verry high expectations of what a new key could do.

Had a A-class MB 2005, with this problem.

BE key. Stopped a couple of times each week. Take the key out, push in and start again. And the car run the rest of the day.
This occurred after about 2 months. Before that, the BE key was alright.
The old original key from customer, also gave a problem. Would not start at all. Before even program in, the BE key. But remote control work OK. (So it belong to this car).

Then choose an expensive key. Not BE key.
Program in a new position. From the files already generated. So not a big job.

Customer report back.
No problems anymore.
Everything is all right.
Never heard from the customer again.

So YES, keys can be a problem.

Its the communication, between the EIS and the key.
Which probably make the errors.

Yes of course BE keys might cause problems but between electronics like EIS / ESL but also gearbox (ML W164 can't change gears sometimes) But it's impossible to cause problems to the engine. It's common problem for Mercedes models to go into limp mode for whatever reasons but it's not connected with key.

So to be sure ypur job is done 100% well, program OEM second hand NEC chrome key (plastic black ones goes faulty more and more often, they are old)
