Streaming from PC to Dreambox with VLC/M3U on DM-500/528

Problem:
I'm trying to transcode videos to stream them from the PC to the Dreambox.
1) If I transcode them to a file with VLC to MPEG2 the transcoder is too slow and the DB will just keep restarting the video file
2) If I transcode over HTTP all I hear is a little garbled sound


Here's what I have done so far:
- Shared my PC's Videos folder for all users
- Mounted a CIFS drive on the Dreambox web interface to connect to my PC's Videos folder
- Played the file in Dreambox File Mode
- Tried to open the .mpg and .m3u files

My Dreambox:
I have a DM-528 (upgrade Chinese clone of the DM-500) and I'm running a Chinese image called Atmosphere 1.2.2.

Update: Tried TVersity with the MPEG1/2 transcoder and only audio would come through.
