Hello,
I'm new in this forum and I hope that someone can help me.
I have a problem to read QFP64 package MCU with UPA-USB programmer. I just bought this programmer and I can't read MCU even programmer should be suitable for this job.

MCU is marked following:
XC68HC705X32
CFU
2D59J
HZFL9626

I think that this is same as MC68HC05X32 or is it?

Programmer includes manual where is picture to where programmers 9 pins need to connect. I connect UPA to MCU according to picture but I don't lift up any leg from PCB. In this case I got error:
Vpp out of Range
Reading: 1 Errors Found Device: MC68HC05X32 Range: 0-7FFF
Next I desolder MCU away from PCB and try to read it again but now I got error:
Device not Respond
Reading: 1 Errors Found Device: MC68HC05X32 Range:0-7FFF

I don't have any idea how to continue. Maybe someone who have UPA experience can help.

resold MCU on PCB an lift pin 20/VDD

Try OBP if you attempt to destroy the MCU!

So, Does this mean that UPA need some original PCB's components in order that MCU is possible to read/programmed by UPA. Is standalone MCU impossible to read/program with UPA?

yes because on some MCU need EXTAL/quartz/resonator

on the soft of UPAUSB, in the right side, you have a table conections, consult that to see how's your wires are attached and from there you may will find wich mistake you did, even if all connection are good, you have to lift pin 20 VDD, is recomended to leave the MCU in his motherboard, good luck

OK. I will put MCU back to PCB tomorrow and try to read it when leg no. 20 is lifted.

When you did try on board, aside form connecting X-tal to the chip, did you also connect the Vpp6 pin (dont remember now what pin no.) to vdd. If you missed to do so, you might destroy your chip already. HC705 has some internal architecture differently to the HC05. Read the two specific data sheets carfully!

Now MCU is soldered back to PCB and tried to read. No success even pin 20/VDD is lifted. I got following error:
Vpp out of Range
Reading: 1 Errors Found Device: MC68HC05X32 Range: 0-7FFF

Next I connect VDD (pin20) and Vpp6 (pin 27). Same result:
Vpp out of Range
Reading: 1 Errors Found Device: MC68HC05X32 Range: 0-7FFF

Have somebody succeed to read/program these kind of MCU. I start to doubt that UPA don't work with these kind of MCU.

DIV10 is forced in bootstrap mode. So at least 20 MHz Crystal MUST be used with this device.

Do you mean frequency on PCB or UPA?

In PCB is crystal marked 190NDK62. and in other PCB what I have from same kind of system is 190NDK(8 or 6 it is hard to read)Y: I didn't find anywhere what are those crystals frequency. In UPA software is also possible to adjust Oscillator frequency from 2000 to 16000 kHz. Which frequency UPA or crystal on PCB need to be 20Mhz?

No your XC68HC705X32 is like MC68HC705X32 but not equal with MC68HC05X32(and for this is needed the 20M...my bad).....and it think that UPA can not read MC68HC705X32(but not sure).

If there were nothing different in the chip setup requirement (and I belived, no) between my HC705B32 and HC705X32, UPA could do my job but only once of the first time on the board! then blown out the chip. Which I am quite confident that this because of my failure to connect Vpp6 pin as
mentioned earier and according to the datasheet.

Hi friends
I have a same problem a few months ago:
when i try to program on the board a ...hc05b16 with upa ...not program...not read.
So i made a pcb with all the elements (plcc52 socket-xtal-resistors...).I use a 9pin socket (to connect to upa) "on the board".. (nothing).
but!!! when i try to connect the pcb with an old "9 pin modem cable" about 1m long, the upa recognizes the ic (program-read)
I know is strange but it works!!

regards

I'm going to test different crystal next. I already order 20Mhz crystal for testing. Hopefully it start to work with new cystal.

Now 4 Mhz and 20Mhz crystall is tested but no success. Finally I bought ETL programmer and it read and write finely XC68HC705X32 MCU when it is connected to desktop computer. I tried first with laptop which have LPT port but it don't work??? MCU is little bit difficult to desolder and also solder to programmer but it seems to work.

replace original crystall with 20Mhz one but READ as 4Mhz

I tried to read MCU with 20Mhz crystall and use UPA software setup 4Mhz but unfortunately it didn't work.

Hi

the cpu's ma68hc705 or 05 are connected to different circuits.
you need to check that the programer connection to chip are not conflicts with the pcb connection . if there are conflicts you may need to rais these pins from the pcb .

a have a problem with upa because i conect with the 9 pin cable but have 2 pin is the 3 pin out.so becaurfull.in in side of rs the 2 pin is out side of cable 3 and the other cables is right.so i must change the cable and work ok
