View Full Version : DM500 and motorised dish, no power?

Got a clone dm500, flashed with PLi image, thats fine.

Hooked everything up and the receiver doesnt appear to be powering the dish, no light on, TM2300 Super.

Ive read conflicting reports as to wether or not the receiver can actually power a motor.

Any ideas?

TIA.

Have the same probs with a 500s and have tried pli and nabilosat images but motor just doesnt move. Pity as the picture quality is good when your on a sat LOL. I need to use a TM500 to drive the motor and swap boxes.

Might be the dream itself but wonder if the sunrise image is freely available? If its a closed shop no problems respect that but if its available any chance of a heads up JJ?

JJ by the way thanks for pm mate with the installers details - i will give the guy a call if i cant fix it myself.

Check your connections on the motor are watertight also check the PSU on the dm500 as some of the clone PSU have been known to be weak.

Believe this is a fairly common problem with the 500. Ive read of some having to upgrade psu to 2amp(?) to get motor power. If you google the problem I'm sure youll get the correct details.

the problem is some were in your setting i cant rember which setting as i have not had a dm500 for a long long time but when i first swapped over from a technomate to a dm500 i had to loop in from my technomate to move the dish
then i played around with the options on the setting and it worked perfect sorry for being vague but it was about 5 years ago

Ive spoke to the guy i got it from, he's willing to swap the motor if its deffo faulty, reckons any box should power it up.

Need to find a Sly box test it properly.

Im really confused by it, guys i know with the kit rave about it, motors work no problem, but searching is flinging up problems.

BTW, will it still send a signal to the 500 if theres no power to the motor?

if you have multi meter you can test the voltage accross the cores on your coax get some one to move the motor and you should see a dc voltage

Seem to be getting somewhere, got hold of another motor, worked when I connected to the receiver on a very short lenght of coax.

Took the motor to the dish outside, connected it up, nothing happening

Dismantles the existing motor, attached to the very short coax and it worked.

Looks like tuner doesn't have enough power to operate the motor over any distance:

i would say iam using about 65 feet of coax bud from dish to receiver

Ive been reading that there are power issues with some of these boxes these, im begin to wonder if the tuner just not strong enough to send a good supply.

Would the strength of the supply be affected the longer the coax is??

Theres a guy local to me who has the same setup, im gonna take the kit to his and test it there.

im having the same problem with mine but mine was working and has now stopped. power still at the motor but it wont move. need to find another reciever to test it, i have a sky reciever but i dont think that will drive a motorised dish.

I've been told that the sky box will power the motor, might be worth a try.

Also, after loads if bloody reading, seen that restoring to factory defaults and reflashing the receiver might get the motor moving.

You tried that?

Don't know what's causing your problem m8, but my dm500s powers my motor without any bother whatsoever, I would estimate my dish to be around 80ft away.

thanks for that great tip, i tried the sky box and was getting the required 18v at the motor from the sky box. unfortunatley the motor is still just clicking so i think its gone. so if you can get a sky box and a multimeter its worth a try.

Firstly, check your cable, if it works on a small length then it's not the box, I had the same prob with a DM7000, and this was with a new length of crap cable, so brought some decent stuff and rigged it up and all works perfect now, so maybe try that first.

Its looking like the connections, ive got 2 different cable both good stuff.

Gonna sit down and take my time doing it, the receivers sitting setup and ready to go.

Hi m8 I had same problem myself but using a different motor to yours, but I was able press reset button on motor and unplug box from mains and reboot
box after about 30 seconds, and bingo back in business.

Right got it sorted, decent connectors and crimps and im in.

Problem being im setting to 28.2 just now without the motor, getting bleeps on the sat finder but no transponders. :argh:

Get that sorted tomorrow, probably have to move the tripod, thanks for the input folks, found the solution at last. :)

have a look on dishpointer.com put your details in and the sat your trying to find. it will point a line directly where the arm on your dish should be pointing line it up by sight and you will not be far away. worked for me, i was having a mare and no luck with a cheap sat meter.

Pretty much done that mate, I've a feeling my dish is just too close to the house, and the way the tripod sits kinda hits the dish.

Update chaps, up and running.

As a first timer a few tips to pass on.

Take your time selecting the location of the dish, i was too close to my house.

Use decent f connectors, crimps and cable, from going to no power ive just ran around 30ms of coax from dish to receiver that worked 1st time.

And be patient with the fine tuning of the dish, missing a cpl of sats at the moment but will get them when i feel the need.

Did get a hand with that right enough. :)

Thanks for the input chaps. :congrats::congrats::congrats:

just a note, I had a 90cm dish with a motor and a humax hd box fitted by an installer ask for a quad lmb, he put the small (thin) about 6mm type cable (used for twin) to it and it would not power the motor, he then put normal cable about 12mm worked fine, boxes i used with are dreambox 500 clone worked fine used a 3v adaptor plug because the one that come with it i blew up (1.5v) and now got a dreambox 800hd that works fine.
