Hi, I am having a problem with my BMW E46. I've replaced the faulty alternator. Since 120 amp alternator is no longer on the market, I replaced it with 150 amp Bosch alternator. It runs fine. However, there is a problem. The DME control unit seems to not able to detect my new alternator and the battery warning light on my instrument cluster is on. It says 'unknown alternator' and I am required to reprogram the DME. I heard that it is possible to replace the 120 amp alternator with 150 amp alternator but we need to reprogram the DME. I tried to click on the Coding/Program button on my DIS ver 43, then I chose Option 5: Programming - > DME Programming. In DME Programming, there are 5 options. Option 1: Determine the basic control unit, Option 2: Exchange Control Unit, Option 5: Clear Control Unit Adaptation. Could somebody give me a helping hand or at least point me into the right direction? Thanks

Where did you source the new one from. Some reconned units are unable to be seen by the ECU.

How could I tell the DME about the new alternator? From the fault code and test plan, it says that I need to reprogram DME. However, I am stucked in DME programming. Please hrlp.

The problem is now solved by someone in coding. However, he refused to teach me on that.
