I've just been offered a settlement for my 52 plate Vauxhall Zafira 1.6 club with 79k on clock.

I've been offered ?2350, which is much less than what it would cost me to buy a similar vehicle locally. I can get a 52 plate Zafira for around ?2750 but they all have over 100k on the clock, mine had less than 80k.

I reckon I would need atleast ?3000 to replace my car.

What should I do?

reject the offer, ask them to show you where you can buy one identical to yours locally for that price

Never accept the first offer made, try to gather proof that locally the equivalent vehicle is costing considerably more than you have been offered.

As cristec says don't accept the 1st offer, try to find a few the same in your local auto trader etc & quote these to the insurance company, best of luck

Or hire your own expert to represent you. In my country that is also paid for by the insurance company.

they tend to go on market value after glasses value, so reject the 1st offer

That Bonnie Tyler bird held out for a hero, you should hold out for more.

That can't agure it wasn't a genuine claim, not like you are trying to scam them by claimming for something that was not due to accident or the fire etc.

Oh what happened by the way?

Didn't we have this thread recently?
Gather evidence of how 2nd hand car prices have gone up recently due to the recession!! Because no one can afford a new one. Find links to cars on the net, Cut out ads in autotrader, take photos of cars on forecourt. Explain you just can't buy an equivalent replacement for the offer.
I did this before (10 yrs ago) when the local hoolies nicked my mint low milage MG Montego, stop laughing!!
I managed to get ?1,000 more than their first offer. Not bad seeing it was a salvage write off when I bought it. (not quite so mint, but if you do a good enough job no one will ever know.) The claims advisor dealing with your case is paid not to give you what the car is worth without you proving it to them. The insurance game is to take money off you all your life & never to pay you even if you claim, if they can get away with it. Have no mercy with them, stand up for what is rightfully yours.
I'll get down from my soap box now.
Let us know how you get on.

Oh what happened by the way?

It decided to self destruct itself during a trip to TESCO, my wife and Daughter were in the car with me.

Fire started somewhere in the front console area and consumed the entire motor within minutes.
