Can I ask a question here just because it bothers me for a long time and is just for interest? :-/ I am not really into DTC off or ecu software modifications at all. That's why I need to ask.

I see that very often for DTC off the requests mention the "P" codes to be turned off. Like here P0299. Could also be "C" codes for chassis or "B" for body, but the thing is: from what I know these codes are text identifier codes so they should not appear anywhere in the software itself...? These codes only define what the diagnostic tool shows for specific and unique trouble codes. So the codes should only appear in the diagnostic tool but not in the software on the ECU. Which is also why the same "P" code can appear more often in the diagnostic tool for several unique codes that are set by the control unit. Doesnt it need the unique code which is inside the software?

At that point I ask myself, how it is possible to do DTC off inside the control unit software by only knowing the "P" code?

Hope it is possible to understand what I mean. Thanks for any explanation regarding this topic :)
