Hi all, i have a bmw e91 with ktag original backup, now i did a vr read with x17 magpro2. ecu ID was same as ktag id...same bosch numbers, same sw number.... but surprise. i compared ktag MPC with x17 VR read and files are different and when i say that i mean maps area . writing that vr file will kill ecu? waiting for someone who knows what i m talking about to give opinion. to me looks like its bad VR file.

Feels like playing with fire if i write that VR file...? even so it would be able to restore with ktag?

Lucky i checked files before…
This is the classic situation, vr read, write ok, car not starting [emoji1]

update: tryed same thing on edc17cp02, had ktag backup. done vr read, write vr and at the end sw number was changed, car working ok. sw version was changed from 103750xxxx to 103739xxxx ( no tprot on this sw). i checked mpc+ eeprom. both changed, even eeprom.

it was probably updated SW from same ECU as most likely was case in your first ecu so it would not be bricked also

Dude, use only KTag for reading/writing of BDM or Booth Mode

I've had no problems with magpro2 x17? Done quite a few VAG VR EDC17 with no issues or brick.

vnkto (https://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/member.php/693243-vnkto) we are talking about BMW not vag...different food. and x17 is a great tool. it fixed many bricked ecu s by other expensive tools. this is not a tool issue. just error from server/ database. no tool is 100% safe, but i consider that it fixed a bricked TCU for me and it deserves its money, same on bricked edc16cp31 MB...this one was only one that managed to connect to ecu, ori kess didn t, ktag is out of question because its a flip board. so....again. for me great tool
