vw bora replace caliper+ brake fluid resevoir tomorrow and would like some advice on the best approach as ive read that many conflicting views on the best way,old fashioned two man ,one bleeding other pump pedal method,vag-com bleed method, gravity bleed, pressure bleed,+ive read that the vag cars not like the pump pedal method, can mess with master fluid resvoir seals,so im gonna change it,as the brake pedal has never been firm and feeling right, far better to do all at once i think, please someone give me the correct procedure, lol, maybe someone on here works on the vag cars daily,i sure hope so,last time i messed with freeing the caliper handbrake mechanism and bled the only way i could get a half decent pedal was using vag-com method, but this time fluid resevoir chanee and bount to suffer quite sizable air intake

hi friend.
You can use the pedal method with no problems.
I already made this in a lot of VAG cars and no problems.
Try to be carefull and dont let air in the circuit.
Best Regards,
Nuno

Not sure on best method but personally I would change Brake master cylinder/reservoir first do not fully tighten pipe unions just yet. Fill it with brake fluid and as soon as brake fluid starts coming out of unions tighten them up, this should get rid of most air in brake master and unions. When that is done do the calliper, if you have a brake hose clamp use that before removing pipe from calliper this will stop fluid leaking out.
If you decide to bleed brakes the old way by pumping the pedal make sure you don't press the pedal all the way to the floor but just about half way, this will stop rubbers rolling inside cylinder. The rezone seals fail is the fact the bottom part of master cylinder is usually a little narrower then the top [as top got a little more wear] and this rolls/damages the seals. I would also have the engine running while bleeding if ABS .

Hi Moi,

doesn't matter what method you use, even Elsawin tells you can do it by pedal pump method if you want. If you hadn't got a faulty master there are not much possibilities left. One thing is the bleeding sequence. It should be: 1= front left, 2= front right, 2= rear left, 4= rear right. Hope this helps!!!

The sequence is unusual , but the manual says so. This is the sequence from elsawin. No need to have engine running. I'll add the description from elsa win, although it is german, you could translate with google.

what i do is clamp 3 flexie brake pipes and bleed the 4th,as it means no fluid is going to wheels you usually get a better pedal to pump the fluid through, then work your way around car.if you clamp all 4 flexie brake pipes and hold foot on pedal
if it falls away master cyl gone.
