Reading & Writing a car outside the workshop

Hello, i would like to read and write cars outside of my workshop, and been wondering what the best way would be to have power to charge the battery while reading or writing. I assume that jumper cables would not be a recommended method, but would a generator with a battery stabilizer be better for this? Or is there anything against using a power inverter in my van to power my battery stabilizer? Really would like to get some suggestions on this topic.

most mobile mappers use jump cables and leave the other car running as the chance of the voltage being interrupted is lesser and tends to deliver enough power.
