How did your installation work? I tried 2.8 on my computer and it fails to install SQL 2005 even if it installs fine if I do it from a Microsoft install file. Then the installation log states I have some not approved operation system (or something like that, don't have the log file reachable) and installation gets aborted. I don't even get the service advisor icon etc.

Does it have some specific requirements on XP or the XP licence name?

Info from rutracker.org:

Hello there is a solution using unlicensed service advisor. I recommend formatting the pc or was install Advisor. Reinstall Service Advisor normally on the pc clean but do not open the software once the installation complete. download and install the utility Cracklock. Follow the procedure used for Cracklock Advisor to create an icon on your desktop. This software will block the internal clock of the program Advisor. it seems that it works perfectly. To reuse the DVD AG ... after their blockade. use the utility power iso and edit the text file "sa.ini" as below:
Produced = 2010/02/01-05: 37:36
[Trigger Dates]
Warning = 2020/06/01
Termination = 2020/07/01
create an iso and mount the latter with Deamon tools before you begin service with the Advisor Advisor Cracklock icon when the software is launched later liked to call the validation of the license. the license will be valid indefinitely despite the warning message.

I think the reason your install crashes is because of the date on the computer when you install it. Version 2.8 has a time out date. Try doing a clean install with the computer ser to Apriil XX 2008.

I thought this was from early 2009, can you confirm that April 2008 is a good date for running the program?

I realised from one of the install logs that it claims my Windows is an uncertified operating system. I actually have an up-to-date fully valid version of XP but it is a localised, non-English version (different from the language options at setup). Would the program expect an English version of XP?

The log gives a warning but the next row says the installation is aborting.

I guess I should try on an English XP (corporate...) if it makes any difference.

Edited: this must be something else after all, see the error messages from SQL installation and after the install shield finishes.

I got one step further. I tried to install this SW on an English XP. This time the SQL2005 stuff got installed without errors. Both computers had XP Professional SP3 (the latter one a valid corporate licence).

Most of the log files have a "Result code = 0" entry but sa28init.log was different:
[InstallShield Silent]
Version=v7.00
File=Log File
[ResponseResult]
ResultCode=-3

The main log file after reboot did not appear to have any obvious errors but still came out with the text: "The Installation of Service ADVISOR did not complete successfully". Attached an extract of this log file.

Does Service Advisor have any free hard drive space requirements?

An interesting site. But this is "just" EPC, I thought SA covered service instructions, operation descriptions, wiring diagrams etc. like workshop documents usually do?

It used to favor XP SP2.

I had hard time finding XP with SP2, ended up installing one for testing this. I also installed IIS first. The outcome still was the SQL server error as I reported earlier.

I have not figured out but on some attempts (different computer) this SQL error does not appear but it looks like the server is still not working properly. I had a look at the SQL server settings and it did have different account options. No idea how those should be set, I thought the SA28 installation program would have taken care of that.

By the way, I'm using the separate DVD from the DL link here. I found SA28 installation files from the other discs but I thought those are data files with updates to the core SW where necessary. Can anyone confirm a successful setup from this main SA28 DVD?

It does look complicated assuming there should be a 30 day trial period (I understand cracklock could work if the installation ever reached this stage. Perhaps my installation DVD is not complete or a correct DVD. I've tried it on more than 5 computers in different ways but no real success.

Edited: I had the SQL 2005 installation files downloaded and tried it independently from JD SA. There is an issue with most computers I've tried, the service actually does not start properly and if SA installation program does not see the service, it tries to install it but it fails equally and at another point installation aborts. I played a bit with the account/domain etc. settings and got the service running. SA installation run significantly further but then finally failed at the attempt to install SMART_STAGE database. I interpret this is still related to the SQL server setup issues.

At one point all the program files (I don't know which all should appear but it was a lot) appeared at the Service Advisor folder but the installation program deletes files automatically, mainly from this folder, once installation is aborted, extract from log:
20:18:53 INFO Waiting for MSSQLServer service to start...
20:19:04 INFO MSSQLServer service was successfully started.
20:19:04 INFO Creating SMART database...
20:19:05 INFO Create SMART Database command launched...
20:19:05 ERROR SMART database creation failed.
20:19:05 INFO Creating SMART_STAGE database...
20:19:05 INFO Create SMART_STAGE Database command launched...
20:19:05 ERROR SMART_STAGE database creation failed.
20:19:05 ERROR Unable to create the Service ADVISOR 2.6 database files. The installation will now abort.
20:19:05 INFO ####### OnAbort #######

Another observation: at this point the installation program does not report any other application being installed but Service Advisor. Previously it always reinstalled SQL Server and some other stuff.

Did everyone loose their interest on this SW? Looks like I've made some progress (got help from another forum member, thanks). I did not figure out how to make the installation pass the OS test, looks like SP3 is not accepted or has anyone been able to install on SP3? I had a new XP installed on an old computer and only updated it to SP2 to avoid this single issue.

Now I've been modifying the data DVDs, editing the SA.INI file but which tool should I use for this task? I did not find a free iso editor, instead I copied the files from the DVD image to a folder, edited the file and made imageburn build an image from the files of this folder. The problem is that imageburn seems to spend hours on the task, like more than 8 hours per DVD (or perhaps it got completely stuck, a couple of DVDs were done after many hours).

The same problem with sa.ini but i make 1 dvd i install and no results...data load .expired data

How does your error appear exactly? Can you post the SA.INI content after you edited it?

I have no experience with the program but I finally got it up and running in the 30 day trial period mode. I don't get any warnings about expired data but my computer clock isn't at current time either.

Looks like the issues I had were related to the the SQL server installation and the XP SP3 computer.

A forum member kindly provided me the licence data but I failed to make those work. Instead of bothering my source, perhaps someone from the forum could explain how the files should be used.

I assume the jdlm.lic file replaces the file from the jdlm-folder. How should the registry files work? I know how the dl.xml.reg file modifies registry but there is another file called dl.xml which appears to have registry related data but I could not figure out how to make use of that?

Easier to work with iso images.

Edit the SA ini then add the new edited

Installation note: you can't install SA on XP home version. It has to be XP pro. We installed it on XP Pro with Service Pack 3 and it worked however we can't get it to recognize the iso files nor can we get the license code so it keeps expiring on us. We also made a restore point on the PC prior to loading service advisor. If you don't do this, simply uninstalling the program and reinstalling does not work. It leaves a lot of files on the computer and the reinstall will be worse than the original install. If we get it working, we'll post our solution.

I have managed to load disc 01 by using map drive in drives section even though it said the disc was invalid information and it will not allow me to create image from disc.It then did an update and opened program but still cant create image or get other discs to load at least now I can look thru and see the tutorials etc and tells you how to add data discs but it does not recognize them as valid SA data.Hope this bit helps someone.And my disc 05 torrent download fails to burn,must be corrupt.

You can install it on XP SP3 without problems:
First step to get successful installation of 2.8, you have to switch time back to 2008 from january-march or april (do not remember month exactly).
Second - edit in your data DVD SA.ini Trigger Dates to higher like 2020 and install it, if it is newer version 2009 in my case it will update program to 2.9.
Third - Now you can run 30 day trial and after it expires you have to login and get licenses from JD server. Or make license keys with keygen if you have one:)
Before getting license you can switch time to normal.

YOU MUST USE XP SP2. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO MANIPULATE THE CALENDAR. THIS IS THE MAJOR DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SP2 AND SP3. CALENDAR IN SP3 ONLY APPEARS TO BE ADJUSTABLE. IT HAS SECURITY PROTOCOLS.

Yes the 5 image files are the data no 1 does an update after you use setup but read the earlier posts for much more info on editing the sa ini dates otherwise it will expire.col

You can roll back calendar if you have XP SP2. Works good for me. SP3 , calendar is not able to change back.

I downloaded all 31 files and when I extract them I only get about 200m it looks like 22 of them are corrupted

I can open 1 4 7 12 13 18 21 23 28 but the rest won't open, Damaged archive

I tried opening the first archive and installing, I get all of the folders but they have zero length files in them. Am I doing something wrong?
