Vagcom 908 - chinese / not plugged into car?

Hi All,

I've got a chinese vagcom 908 cable (VAG-COM 908 (45USD)_auto Diagnostic Tools_AD900,X431,AD100,SBB,MVP,VAGCOM,STAR,GT1,SUP ER VAG K+CAN,AUTOBOSS,DIGIMASTERII,FORD VCM IDS,auto Diagnostic Tools,auto Diagnostic test Tools,Nissan / Opel / Mercedes-Benz Diagnostic Tools ,BMW Diagnostic Tool (http://www.obdzone.com/ProductShow.asp?ID=854)) I didn't get any cd supplied with it though (as one perhaps might assume based on the picture) ...

So i've installed the rosstech driver which is seen in device manager, and when opening up VCDS the interface is detected... all cool I thought.

Going outside to one of the cars (a golf mk4 (which has been working on vagcom 3.11 and a generic ebay cable) plugged it in and get a "not plugged into a car") the LED is green on the interface.

Am I being a numpty or is there anything else to do with these chinese cables? or do I have t send it back?

you have to test it in options and save it.

I get this error when I am still in options and clicking on 'test' - just been out to the car now and the same thing ;( ... do you think the cable could be duff?

think i'll be back on to the people at obdzone and getting it swapped out.

make sure ignition is on before plugging cable in .

plug cable into pc ,then start vcds ,dont upgrade from version 908.1 software

Yer, was planning on not upgrading ;)

only thing i'd not done was have the ignition not switched on before plugging the cable in, but, cable has been in with ignition off, then on, then plugged into laptop.

I've emailed the supplier to see whether they can ship me one out (they better do otherwise i'll lodge a complaint with paypal and get my cash back instead)

too late to go outside and start playing with cars, will do that in the morning but can't see it making much of a difference - will do it anyway of course!

Just a thought, as i downloaded 908.1 - and i've found a 908 on another website, i'll see how that goes..

couldn't wait ... would you adam and eve it.

new software (908 - not 908.1 from the rosstech site) cured and i'm now connected and running diagnostics.

hope this helps anyone who buys one!

In china you will find them cheap,but not all crap will work from there.

I got lot of 607,and 805 interfaces and had to reflash every 2.nd interface,so your chancy or not.

I emailed them and they sent another version of vagcom 908 to me and this worked really well indeed! The only issue is the label file is missing for the engine in the vw golf 1.6 i'm working on ;) other than that, i'm really pleased with it! will be looking to get a label file created for that though.

Ussualy each cable USB \ OBDii come with proper software and never be updated, or use the cable in other version.. could be desprogram the cable...

No, this one can be bought for 25€. Also, best version is to buy 607 which cost about 15€ and update it by yourself to 908. 908 dumps are now available.

but I have vag-com 704.1 and sed do not function by update the software. Perhaps there is a way that I do not know to run my cable with the latest version?

this is too difficult for me and I'm afraid to destroy my cable that I have. The version I found at 90Euro is version 908. you tell me if this is a good deal

This 908 you found is peace of crap and is worth a lot less than 90€. I'll send you a link where you can find it for 25€. But anyway, it will stop working in a few days and then what? You must buy another. If you really don't know how to update by yourself, then find someone in your near. It won't cost you more than 50€ which is a lot less than 90€.

Hello, sorry my englist isn?t very good. Ich have an Interface from china with 908 software. In option i can test and it seam to be okay. I tested on a car an everytime i get the message that no car is conectet. I installed on a Windows7 computer and the Software was shipped with the Interface. Could somebody help me?

i have the same problem with vag 106 latest version. i think that something wrong with connections and soldring inside. i will return the product to get a new one.

vag106 my interface had a problem, Hotair helped, the quality of my performance is very weak.

open the cable and inside find the ATF16v8b ( similar to GAL 16v8b ) and change it .
but must write inside it this dump attached to function properly.
