can it be learned with VCDS, or is ODIS (GEKO) needed ?

All what you want to do with audi RB4 you can do by OBD using prog vageepromprogrammer 1.19 and simple KKL adapter.

I had a bad experience caused by a lack of knowledge on these clusters. ~~~~ed if up with a tool trying to read eeprom by diagnostic connector (OBD). Was able to fix it by simply teaching cluster back into the immo components. Was a struggle though, cause I just wanted to read eeprom for testing purposes :D

But: friends here are right, if you virgin correctly and then teach in there should not be a problem at all.

Use vag eeprom commander to pull both pins then use vcds to adapt this is the easiest way. If you get it wrong gonna need expensive tools to fix like dejavu.
