just out of interest....why do you have to wait for 24 hours?
did you flash it yourself? why/how did it stop working?

edit: ok i see you were trying to flash it yourself. what exactly did you do? did you actually get it to work?

i cant see what difference 24 hours is going to make. but maybe im very wrong.

Dream can make Receivers but there power supplys are crap, had a few of the poping over the years, European Voltages differ from the UK & ROI but they never seemed to sort it out, if the unit fails to power up most likely its due to the powers supply not receiving correct input voltage thus there not been the correct output voltage and the receiver will not power up.

If you are buying the first production batch of these receivers this is what to expect, should wait a few months untill all these issues are sorted out, any new electronic items have there issues, never be first to rush into something newly released or your asking for trouble dissapointment and the cost of returns etc.

Madness to buy this receiver anyway, far better receivers for a few extra pound like the DM800, Qbox HD etc, apart from HD & E2 this receiver is no more functional than the older DM500 or 500+, Far to over priced for what it realy does, Dream will sell more 800s when there is only 50 quid in the differeance for the basic 800 model.

i m gettin scared now im just after buying one of these!

@ mjamil

how did you get it to work? did you just wait or changed the power supply?

altought i do agree with yous that it is overpriced, i think its a good compromise if you are looking at specific things.

the dm800 is a superior model, but 80 pounds more is still a lot of money for something that does pretty much the same thing

i got the 500 hd because first of all that was my budget ; i wanted a dreambox because i dont have much experience with linux boxes and im sure that there is the best support available for them. i was tempted by a dm800 clone as well but if im forking out this amount of money, id want it to be a good product that is gonna last in the future and dont have to worry about new bootloaders, images that could brick my box and looking for rightly patches images.

anyway thats just my opinion

Its crazy money allright.
370 euro for a receiver that doesnt even have a bloody usb port in this day and age is hopeless.

There is no USB port? And does it take HDD?

I think a chinese dm800 clone is much better.

Buy it for ?150, remove the tuner and get an original one from germany 50euro, and you have a sound working HD box even better than the original one which cost close to ?400

u can connected an external hd using the esata port

its not that simple, u get value for money with a chinese copy no doubt , but if you wanna get good support for your box ( which is what its all about really!) then an original is better

You get more support from a dedicated website like this than you do from any manufactuer website or customer services call centre, To buy a clone receiver only expresses that Dream have the price of there products all wrong !

The other thing most people fail to forget ! Dream get there receiver made in China and then shipped back into the EU, The usless modem built into nearly all Dream receivers is because, Any electronic item fitted with a Modem does not pay Import Dutys in the EU, This saves them a lot of money, The real Dream receivers are built cheap as well in China and most likely beside the clone ones (Clone Receivers do have different materials used in Manufacturing) in some cases they are better / worse.

But its a case that Dream get there stuff built in China & the clone receivers also come from China so it tells you that that workmanship of these items are as bad as each other at the end of the day.

Here is the connection with Dream Multimedia & China

Dream Multimedia Raded by the police (Last November)

40 Custom Officers and Police Officers broke in Dream Multimedia's HQ
offices in L?nen (Germany).
The warrant search was extended to private houses of CEOs and share
holders (T*m Ziem*nn, K*y Ziem*nn, J?r*en Leu*ring, Di*k Gl*nz and
the turkish Asl*n).

The break-in is apparently motivated to a Custom malicious wrong
declaration of embedded modems on DreamBox's STB. At present
private belongings of the owners of Dream Multimedia have been
confiscated. Rumors say that Custom is claiming 6 years of importing
from China DreamBox STB's without paying import duties due to the
embedded modem.

Presumably searches would be extended to all companies that have been
importing DreamBox Set-Top-Boxes in the next coming months for duties
claims in Germany and almost all EU countries as it is now proven that the
non-working modem was installed for tax scams only.

Up to now all the stock is under Custom’s block and no goods will be officially
released. It seems that border inspection on DreamBox Set-Top-Boxes and
the well known clones of DreamBox will be strongly enlarged limiting the
import of this items in the European territory.

Informers are reporting that this has to be considered the final Knock-Out
to the most famous audiovisual company worldwide and that it all started
from provider’s pressure on stopping Dream Multimedia from producing this
STB becoming more and more popular for the ground breaking card-sharing
phenomenon.

that doesnt sound good ..

well personally what convinced me after all was the amount of people having problems with the boxes..
had a browse at different forums and people with cloned boxes reported a lot more problems than people with original boxes..
be it tuner problems, installing images and so on
then again i dont know the nature of the problems, but i want to minimise the risk of trowing money in the bin!

having a reliable seller that you can contact if things go wrong is a big bonus too

i know that by buying it at the high price which is currently at,is like saying to them '' people are happy to pay that price so why lower it'' so i still hope people buy cloned boxes
