    DM500 Hyperterminal

Does anyone have a tut on how to use hyperterminal with a dm500,or how to find the ip,i cant use the normal method cause i can only seem to get any life out of it,with a ethernet cable plugged in,cant use dream up to flash a new image. If i can find the ip,i may be able to use flashfxp to talk to the box.

lights coming on with the crossover cable doesnt really help if the box aint bootin
you need to get dreamup to talk with the box on your null modem cable, chances are its your serial port on pc or a problem with a usb>serial adapter.
hyperterminal pretty long winded way of doing things with a dreambox and wont work anyway if dreamup cant see the box..

ip you setup in menu>setup>expert setup>communication setup
and you will set ip in there on box btw,,, or use DHCP

If your having problems don't bother trying to get the network cable working. You can flash using just the serial lead.

I suspect like satman says that you may be having problems with your serial port. Are you using a USB to serial adapter or is the serial port part of your PC?

            Hyperterminal connection

try the following procedure below. I got a mates Dreambox 7025 working again which would not boot.
Disconnect the Dreambox from the AC outlet for 2 minutes.
Connect the RS232 (null modem cable described above) cable as if you wanted to flash with DreamUp.
On your PC start Hyperterminal with following parameters:
            - Name = Dreambox
            - COM port 1 or 2 (your physical COM port on which nullmodem cable is connected - I have used COM7 - it was my PCI Express card to RS232 adapter)
            - Bits per second = 115200
            - Data bits = 8
            - Parity = None
            - Stop bits = 1
            - Flow control = Xon / Xoff

Now you should see a white window with a blinking cursor.

Switch Dreambox ON and pay attention immeditalely to the PC monitor. You have to be quick now. When whatever appears on the screen, hit Enter twice quickly (or S): a menu has to be appear on the screen.
The menu shows if the flash memory is enabled for booting. If not, set it enabled. Set all media enabled for booting!
After that continue the boot process via Hyperterminal.

At this moment Dreambox may hang; don't worry yet. If so, disconnect it form the AC outlet again.
            Close Hyperterminal.
            Start DreamUp.
Switch the Dreambox on. The DreamUp must show "Waiting for acknowledge", then "Connection established".
            1. It everything was happened like above, it's time to have a glass of beer. The rest steps needed you will find here .
            2. If the Hyperterminal doesn't shows anything or later the DreamUp doesn't shows "Connection established" it's a pity: probably you will need to JTAG your box.
