How I flash a new image using FXP

I've written this quick guide, showing how i do it, i don't have a router, so i connect straight from my pc to the dbox.

    You need:-

    PC
    Dbox2
    Crossover cable > http://www.comms-express.com/product...5-patch-leads/
    Flash FXP software > http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums.../flashfxp-176/

To do this, you have to ensure that your pc network and your dbox network settings are set to allow them to speak to each other.

Do not connect the dbox to the pc yet!

You need to check your network settings on the dbox first, so using your remote press

    dbox
    settings
    network

    and write down the settings

    (this is an example)

    IP-Address 192.168.0.100
    Net Mask 255.255.255.0
    Broadcast 192.168.0.255
    Def Gateway 192.168.0.1
    Name Server 192.168.0.1

Once you've written these down you then need to set up your PC's network settings.

Do this on your PC by the following:-

    Control panel
    network settings
right click on your connection and select properties
    internet protocol (TCP/IP)

Manually set your IP address to make the last digit one digit higher than the dbox ( as in the example, set PC to 192.169.0.101 seeing as the dbox is 192.168.0.100)

Make sure default gateway is the same as dbox (eg 192.168.0.1)

    And press OK.

You must also ensure you have any firewalls disabled and virus checkers.

Now hook your box up to the PC

    Open the Flash FXP program
On one side should be the files on the PC
On the other side make sure you select ‘ftp browser’ (the tab is a monitor and folder picture)
    (It may already be selected)

Click CONNECT (the icon which looks like a lightening bolt)

Select QUICK CONNECT the three boxes require some information
SERVER OR URL = (enter the IP address of the DBox)
    USERNAME = root
PASSWORD = dbox or dbox2 or commando

    click on the CONNECT button.

If it fails, try one of the other passwords and click CONNECT again.

You should now see the DBox files in the window

In the PC file window, browse to the folder containing the image you want to put on and click on it.

In the DBox window browse to the tmp folder

Transfer the image file across into the tmp folder

Once the file has transferred successfully, at this point it'd be wise to save your current services.xml and bouquets.xml files to your pc.

Still using FXP, in the DBox window browse to /var/tuxbox/config/zapit and click on services.xml and bouquets.xml

in the PC window browse to a folder you want to save them into, it might be worth creating a folder on the desktop to make it easy to find.

    Transfer them across.

Now you can close down FXP and go to your dbox with the remote.

    Now using your remote press:-

    dbox
    service
image backup/flash or expert functions (your image could say either)
    flash one partition (V IMPORTANT)
    flash without bootloader (V IMPORTANT)
You'll see the image you FTP'd to the box available, select it.

    Flash the image

Once flash has completed, it will reboot.

Once it has, go back into:-

    dbox
    settings
    network
and change the network settings back to the ones you had written down earlier.

    Select restart network.

Go back to the PC and open up FXP.

    Click CONNECT

    Select QUICK CONNECT

Go into the PC folder you saved your Bouquets and services into.

In the Dbox window browse back to /var/tuxbox/config/zapit and transfer the services and bouquets across.

That should be your new image up and running

You should remember at this point to restore your PC connection to normal.

    Control panel
    network settings
right click on your connection and select properties
    internet protoocol (TCP/IP)

Check the box to automatically detect network settings.
You must also remember to enable your firewall on your PC as well as anti virus software.

Hook your modem back up, job done!

Hope this helps and that i haven't missed anything out. Any questions just ask

Thanks for being patient here with me, Metman.

Im still a novice at all this stuff, but learning quickly.

Sometimes i get a bit confused.

Im using a straight ethernet cable and im trying to use IFA (FlashFXP) to transfer missing files onto my Dbox2 which i have downloaded from on here. (ie Nagrarom7 and k*yes from my laptop to the Dbox2)

I do have a bootable image, Laky Sylas x 2.
I can get all the FTA channels to work but realise i need these missing files to watch the other stuff which is not FTA.

When trying to connect it keeps saying 'connection failed'.

                  Thanks

ok image flash assistant (ifa) is not flashfxp.....ifa u should only need to use when ur img is corrupt and you cant access the dbox. flashfxp is a ftp proggy which u can use to connect ur pc to dbox to transfer files either way and allows u to transfer a new img if u want to flash......so it is flashfxp u got not ifa?

if u can connect by ftp u shouldn't need to use ifa even for flashing imgs....unless u the img becomes corrupt or you flash the wrong type of img and you get kein system prob and the box will not boot

ok the way i do it thru a router is leave my pc network alone and change the dbox network settings accordingly.

go into ur pc cmd window ie type in run "cmd.exe" (without the quotes) and a window should pop up, after the prompt > type ipconfig /all.....make a note of ur ip address and ur default gateway

Mate my guide was using crossover cable straight from pc. If you're still stuck though let me know and i'll walk you through using a router and straight through cable.
