    Cannot FTP to my Dbox2

Hi, I need to update my DBox with the new Nagrarom7.bin file yet for some reason i cannot FTP to the box.

I get the network settings from my box,
    ip address (192.168.0.100)
    subnet mask (255.255.255.0)
    default gateway (192.168.0.1)

and then i change my Local area network settings too:
    ip address (192.168.0.101)
    subnet mask (255.255.255.0)
    default gateway (192.168.0.1)

Then i try to FTP to the IP (192.168.0.100) and i just get a timeout. I am using a crossover cable to try and connect to the dbox.

I used a program to read the ports and the information that gives me is that the box has no open ports:
    "Starting Nmap 4.76
Initiating ARP Ping Scan at 17:57
    Scanning 192.168.0.100 [1 port]
Completed ARP Ping Scan at 17:57, 0.37s elapsed (1 total hosts)
Read data files from: C:\Program Files (x86)\Nmap
Note: Host seems down. If it is really up, but blocking our ping probes, try -PN
Nmap done: 1 IP address (0 hosts up) scanned in 0.59 seconds
    Raw packets sent: 2 (84B) | Rcvd: 0 (0B)"

So now i have no idea how to FTP to my d-box, does anyone have any ideas what i am doing wrong?

Hi at your dos prompt type in, tracert 192.168.0.100
This may come back with the error if it cannot find the ip address.

    Regards

    Harpo.

After doing as you said i got:

"Tracing route to 192.168.0.100 over a maximum of 30 hops
      1 1ms 1ms 1ms 192.168.2.1
      2 212ms 190ms 125ms 213.123.106.122
      3 329ms 429ms 340ms 217.32.85.161
      4 160ms 575ms 507ms 217.41.221.174
      5-30 * * * Request timed out."

Im not sure what this means, i cannot see 192.168.0.100 so i would presume the connection is messed up? Any ideas on how i can fix it?

try setting your card to 192.168.0.99, its usually set one less than your box, not one more..also remember to set duplex settings at 10/half base(your network card wording may be slightly different)

Changed the settings as instructed but still get a connection time out. I really dont know what is going wrong. I have two box's here and im doing it to both of them to check one is not broken but both give the same results.

            Hi,

There could be something wrong with your crossover cable.
If your using a normal cat5 cable it will not work. If you have two pc's try using the crossovercable to link the 2 pc's and see if you can see both pc's on the network or copy one file to the other pc.

            Harpo.

I know i am using a crossover cable but i cannot be sure if it is working as i do not have another computer to test it with, is there anything else i can do?

Sorry come to the end og my usefulness on this, normally it should be within the ip range of 192.168.***.*** which this is a private range, ie local to you.
Where you have the 237 i think are you using a laptop from work or something. Where you need to be on your network and not network from work.

                harpo.

So using a standard cable i would set it up so that the settings on the box are the same as my router (192.168.2.1) so therefore 192.168.2.100? And then would i connect to it exactly the same in the FTP client connecting to that IP?

                          default gateway 192.168.002.001

Should that be when its plugged into the router?
