    Can't open MTD-Device

Hi my box is a Sagem x1 Neutrino with Sportster (1.7 i think)

I am very new to this so if you need any more info i need to know how to find it.

Despite my newness i have managed to get some channels on this. I can't seem to get any channels using the scan function it takes ages and comes up with nothing not even FTA.

I searched google and other sources and managed to get a services.xml for my area that works but many channels display "Channel not available" But they are in the services.xml and Bouquet files. I think its because they are outdated but without them i would have no channels. I am in the Wigan area. I currently have basic FTA but not the newer ones (BBC3 ITV2 etc).

I figure that the image on this box might be outdated so i tried to flash a new image. From what I've read newer images will auto update the keys??? Anyway i tried to flash Commando_10 x1.img but it comes up withg this error: Can't open MTD-Device

As i am new i have no idea what this means or what to do next. Hope someone can help.
    Thanks!

and if the image is compressed in rar or zip format- you'll need to uncompress it first, so it has a .img extension, and is exactly 8,257,356 bytes in size.

You then choose Flash w/o Bootloader as the Partition Type (same when you back it up).

      Cheers- AL

I did something very dumb and now the box won't boot. Worse still i can't access it on the network (as it won't boot).

How did it end this way?: None of the flashing tools would work for me I don't know why. The only thing that would work is FTP. I found a tool here in the download section that can extract the files and folders from the image. I extracted all the files from the commando image then uploaded them all via FTP (overwriting the existing files), expecting this would update the image. How wrong was i now it won't boot.

I have a backup of all the original files but don't know how i can get in or if I even can get in. Is it possible to do anything with the serial port???

I feel very stupid and have noone to blame but myself.

What exactly do i need to do this? "ethernet and null modem thru serial" This sounds very confusing as if i need to connect by ethernet and serial port???

Can you describe the process and what I need to connect?

My pc doesn't have a serial port nore do i have a cable but i will be willing to get one if i can save this box.
            Appreciate thanks!

PS: Forgot to say i connect the box via router not crossover cable.

ok when i use ifa thru router i normally use the straight ethernet only - u can attach the serial for a bootlog but this cable is not essential for this method

I can't connect straight thru the router because the box is not booting its not making the connection to the router. If i login to my router and go to list of attached devices i can see the box is not present (where previously it was).

Does this also mean i will not be able to make a serial port connection??? and the box really is dead...

The box seems to be stuck at the Loading kernel stage... I tried using IFA to flash the commando image i got on here but it says its not the correct size so i tried lakys instead.

After i click start IFA just gives me a blank window and stays there. Nothing changes on my boxes display stays stuck there Loading kernel...

I read the IFA guide BTW

Only thing is i'm on XP64 dunno if that would make a difference (Theres not errors). I will try rebooting into XP 32 bit to see.

i use router xp 32bit with this version of ifa, never fails, just make sure av and firewalls off........image has to be 8.257.536 Bytes and obviously 1x in ur case.....if u used imageworks to chnge remember the setting must be NO BOOTLOADER the default will be WITH BOOTLOADER....this will give u an img of incorrect size and give u problems siimilar to wot u got

OK it refused to flash on my XP 32bit. When i tried to flash it said something about windows connection sharing was using the ports its needed to operate (even though i don't have internet sharing enabled). Anyway i tried IFA on my Vista laptop and it seems to be working so far yippeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

Thanks for all your help and perseverance if it was not for your help i would have given up by now.

There does not seem to be any channels working on the new image and it is very sluggish i assume its updating or something. Anyhow at least I have something i can work with now.

                          Thanks again!!
