    Do you need to use a cross over cable if connecting through a router?

        No mate if your router is set to assign ip addresses (DHCP) set your dbox to dhcp in network settings ive done it for ages and works no probs on dbox and dreambox

          The router is setup to allow crossover and straight through cables. altho a few years ago if you were using a switch it would have to be a specific cable type. also if connecting 2 pc's/laptops directly you would need to use a cross-over.

          Yes i know i ramble on

            Just to clarify for those that are confused:

            Router <-> PC = PATCH
            Router <-> DBox = PATCH
            PC <-> PC = CROSSOVER
            PC <-> DBox = CROSSOVER

            Settings for one to communicate with one another is another matter
