Setup Local area connection and FTP Client for XP and VISTA

I have noticed that there are many people asking for how to set-up Local Area Connection and FTP Client so your Dbox can Communicate with your PC / Laptop. I have decided this step by step for both above set-ups would be helpful to everyone specially the New ones to Dbox. Please understand that I wrote this step by step explanation to the best of my knowledge about Dbox and if you think something is missing Just post your suggestion and I will correct the mistake. I hope that all Members of Digital Kaos new and old appreciate my help and wish you all Good Luck: Salami.

    Local Area Connection Set-Up.

    1) Go to your Local Area Connection, highlight it and right click mouse on it.

    2) A window will open go to Properties in the bottom and click on it.

    3) An other window will open.

    4) For Vista highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 (TP/IPv4)
on XP highlight Internet Protocol (TP/IP)

    5) Click on Properties button and then click on tiny button says "Use the following IP address:"

    6) in IP address: type = (192.168.1.100) just use this IP address as long as (100) is not the same as on your Dbox IP if your Dbox IP finish's with (100) then type (101 or 102) this will work (Please dont make a mess of it don't change your Dbox IP under any circumstances what so ever. Please don't ask me Why is just the way it is HA HA HA . As long as your Dbox IP is different from your Local Area Connection this will work.

    7) Now Click on (OK) then (Close)

    8) Before you start Flashing a New Image Just Desible Anti Virus, Fire Wall and Wireless if you are using a Router.

Is so easy to do the above but isn't it HA HA HA just hold on M8 your not finished yet. Lets sort the FTP Client too OK.

FTP Client Set-UP. Now basically all the FTP Client are the same and do the same work too the only difference between them is the interface and nothing else. I am using FileZilla because is FREEEEEEEE and update all the time for nothing. Hey you can use FlashFxp too is up to you Dear DK Member and both of them can be found here: Digital Kaos - Downloads - Others

Lets talk and start working on FTP Client nevermind talking Fish Supper.
    This set-up is for FileZilla:

    1) Open FileZilla

    2) Click on File (top left handside)

    3) Click on Site Manager

    4) Click on (New Site tap)

    5) Host = Your Dbox IP I hope that you have took a note of it when you finished flashing the new Image.

    6) Server type = FTP - File Transfer Protocol

    7) Logon type = Normal

    8) User = root

    9) Password = dbox or dbox2 for any image except Commando password is = commando

If everything went well should be no problem for your Dbox to communicate with your PC/Laptop.
If for some strange reason there is no communication then check that the Anti Virus and Fire Wall are turned OFF.

Hey you are not finished yet again because you will have a problem with your internet and you can't go to
www.digita-kaos.co.uk to say thank you to Salami AH you know why because you need to turn your Anti Virus and Fire Wall on and go back to your normal Area Connection and click on (Obtain an IP address Automatically) in the properties tap. I got you you isn't it.

Well I wish you good luck for your set-up and I hope your watching your favourite channels after you FTP the Fix to your Dbox you can find the fix here Thanks to Gizmo.1484.

beware some of this advice re ip addresses

    Just a few tips

ip addresses should have 4 parts eg 192.168.1.100 and not 3 as above. What you are trying to do is get all your devices on the same LAN as your router. The problem is that in general your router will use dchp and your DBox uses static ip addresses.

In general your home LAN will be a class C private network this simply means that all the devices should have the same first 3 parts of the ip address usually 192.168.1. with each device then having a different last part from 1 to 254 Your router will usually be 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.254

If this is the case then you need to change the ip address of your dbox to something like 192.168.1.23 as long as the 23 does not conflict with anything on your LAN then you will be fine. You can set your netmask on your dbox to 255.255.255.0 and the gateway to the ipaddress of your router.

With a setup like above I have my dbox connected by standard ethernet cable to my wireless router and can connect to it by ftp or browser from my laptop. I have also connected 25ft triple rca lead to a second TV from the dbox for watching in another room. I can use the yweb browser interface to change the channel via my laptop or iphone from the other room.

In general write down all your ip settings before changing anything so you can always revert.

[I see the above post has been amended so please ignore the bit about wrong size ip addresses.....]

Thank you for the correction of the IP it is 4 parts.

Regarding the Local area can be anything start with 192.168.1.XXX in this method does work and is working with my Dbox to use the other method is to use your dbox IP but the 4th part can be anything else as long is not the same as the Dbox IP last degits. check it out. However thank you for spotlighting the mistake.
