Hyperterminal handshake

I am trying to update my dbox2 with just a serial connection. After setting up hyperterminal on XP, connecting the null modem cable between dbox2 and PC then entering the recommended protocols and putting uboot.mot in the root directory, I then hold the up button on box during boot up, and all I get is gobbledygook symbols, then if I push a key, I get the occational response with the wrong character , obviously the dbox2 and PC are not shaking hands properly, any Ideas would be gratefully received, as the dustbin is SLOWLY getting closer.

Have a read of this sticky also make sure you are using a 9 pin f/f nullmodem cable
if you have a crossover cable you can use ifa to flash it as its a lot easier and quicker.
