    Brand New to D-Box

    Hey guys.

So I visited my family in Scotland and they were talking to me about this "D-Box 2" they had bought and how they recieve all the channels etc. So i've had a look around but i'm getting very confused with some of the lingo that's being used or what I actually need to get this to work!

So i'm in need of some help and have a few questions on what I need to get etc.

    • Where do I get a D-Box from?
    • Does it just connect via the normal means of aerial etc (It will be going in my bedroom)
    • What 'software' do I need to get?
    • Are there any step-by-step tutorials I can follow (pref with pictures)

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

      Get a Dreambox

I had a dbox 2 but i had soo many headaches with it.

Dreamboxes ares waaay easier to use, around the same price and smaller (in size).

when i had my dbox just connecting to it was a headache and it didn't scan channels for some reason, the tuner was working but not picking up anything. and the older forum i used a few years ago had unfriendly ****ers on it so i just sold it on ebay.

anyway, the guide has a few error, don't update the files into var_init use just the var directory, plus u will have to find the newer ROMS to put into the scee folder. hope that helps

To get all the channels out there you must have a cable connection coming into your house, provide by v*rgin med*a, (formerly known as telewest/ntl)

I understand how a lot of people might prefer the dreambox to the dbox2, but I have to defend the dbox2 cos a good quality nokia dbox2 takes some beating in my opinion. Granted the dreamboxes are much better to look at and have modern kit in them and good for the future.
There have been about 4 versions of the starview (1,2,3,4) and many versions of the Eurovoxes but dbox2 is still standing, probably cos they are German quality!
These boxes have been around much longer than any others, one of the first linux/open source based and they are still going strong I think.
The tuners may be outdated and do cause problems in some cases but I have had 1 for years now and still doing ok. In that time I am sure some people have gone through a couple versions of starviews or eurovoxes.
