    Issues with new service

Just setup a new Sagem 2x Dbox for a friend.
Loaded Laky image and scanned and stored all channels at my place. Box working lovely.

Took it round to my friends, who has just had a VM broadband-only connection installed this week, no TV package.

Plugged box in and no channels at all, not even FTA.

So, does there need to be some sort of TV service initially for things to work. I used to have a basic package and cancelled everthing but the Internet and mine works fine.

Seeing as my friend is just a couple of miles down the road from me (Epsom, Surrey), I assumed he is on the same Location (Croydon) to me. Does anyone know if this is the correct location?

If anyone can help with this, I would be most grateful.

Dont necessarily need to buy tv package. As long as the cable line is live (eg by having internet connection) should be ok and should work

maybe so, but if u don't subscribe, to at least, the min tv package, the majority of people on here think u are a leeching filthy low life that is going to eventually cut off the hand that feeds you and others. VM will go bust and /or put more resource into developing an encryption that will be 'unhackable'

          have a nice day

Thanks, guys, I have a wall mounted splitter lying around, so I will give that a try. Just wasnt exactly sure that the white box mounted in the front room was no more that a splitter.

            Will report back with findings.

Well, I went round and opened up the white box on the skirting board and inside was a splitter. One side said FM and the other said TV/Data.

Tried the box on both connections, nothing.
Put a splitter on the TV/Data connection and then tee-d off that and still nothing, not even FTA.

So, have told them to get the basic package from VM and then will have another look.

Just the bb package is enough, take out the white box that vm put in, and use your own splitter in its place, if you only get bb the splitter in the white box will block tv.
