    Ftp problem

Trying to fix my dads box using his laptop and a crossover cable.

I got the static IP set up as per usual.

I'm using the same IP as the network IP on the box in SmartFTP (Username-root password-dbox2 and port-21), but I just can't connect and I keep gettng this error:

    Connect socket #852 to 192.168.1.7, port 21...
    Can't establish connection --> 192.168.1.7:21 @ Tue Aug 18 16:43:15 2009 (10054-38)
An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

I've turned off the firewalls and even tried different Ftp programmes such as CoreFtp and Filezilla but still I can't connect. I used this same crossover cable in my own system just yesterday so it can't be that...

    Can anyone help?

Yes. My Dbox IP is 192.168.1.7. I set my static IP to 192.168.1.6. This has always worked. I set my FTP client IP 192.168.1.7. But nothing.

      Anyone got a suggestion?

Can you ping the box ? Is windows firewall off too.Have you tried flashing with IFA ?

        THE TRUTH
        The Hillsborough Independent Panel. 12/09/12

Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'.

is that 007/006 ..../700/600 ,or is your antivirus on?what is your connection type its a long shot but check your connection type::::::

Right-click the network card (it may say Local Area Connection),
and select PROPERTIES > CONFIGURE > ADVANCED tab

Highlight the ‘Connection Type’ (in the left window),
and in the right ‘Value window there is a drop down menu (it will probably currently say automode)
Change the Value to 10 full mode then OK

Windows firewall is disabled and my other firewall is disabled AND not running.

I don't bother with IFA any longer as Hyper-threading and it's a pain turning it off and I also no longer have a serial connection on my new computer or this laptop.

I thought FTP'ing with a new image via remote would be the solution as it's usually very easy to do!! :-O

How do I ping the box?

What do you mean by reseting? Rebooting them or something else?

Check in the network settings that start network on boot is switch on
                            change ip to this 192.168.001.202
                            subnet mask 255.255.255.0
                            broadcast leave blank
                            default gateway blank
                            dns server blank
press red to restart network then home then red to save settings
reboot the box and go and check the settings have saved

                            pc
set local area connection network card to 10baseT_halfduplex or 10 halfmode
                            static ip of 192.168.1.201
                            subnet mask 255.255.255.0
all other boxes blank click ok
disable all other networkcards including wireless and try that

or just go into your pc bios and turn hyperthreading technology off and flash it with IFA.
