    Poll: Dbox2 which image?

Hi all, totally new here so go easy on me

I just bought a sagem dbox and want to update it to the latest image but i'm confused as to which one to go for.

Lakys, Blade, Fatman, CableFerret, Commando, Sportster, Other........

Everyone must have a favourite but whats the general concensus? Please give the pro's and cons of your choice.

My advice would be try a few different images. Its not always the latest image which will run best on your box every box iss slightly different its more a case of finding out whats best for you.

Why didn't you get a Dbox 2? Much mre better than Sagem boxes as i used to have a Sagem box and it was not fun at all.

        <--femiboy45 added 2 Minutes and 16 Seconds later...-->

        Sorry i meant a Noki Dbox 2.

I actually have both, I bought a nokia on fleabay with the coax snapped off the tuner. Thought it might be an easy fix but the previous owner completly botched resoldering it on and fried the tuner. I've bought a replacement tuner, just waiting for it to arrive and then transplant.

In the meantime a picked up a bargain sagem dbox2. I was under the impression that they were virtually identical in terms of hardware and it was a matter of prefrence as to which was better between the nokia/sagem.

A bit more info in what i'm ultimately trying to achieve:

I know you can connect the dbox to a pc to act as a pvr. Can this feature be extended so as to stream a live feed over a lan instead of recording it. Would this be achievable by connecting the dbox to my router?

Basically can use my existing lan to send dbox streams to any pc on the network?

Which image would offer the best feature set for interfacing with a pc?

          thanks in advance

I havent done this (yet) , but your approach seems snd , using the lan is the way , i believe the answer lies in VLC

              streaming tv to my computer

                cheers for that burr.

that looks promising and relatively straightforward. Will the streamed source be of lesser quality or does the dbox just forward it untouched?

If it just forwards the stream, could this feature be used to stream HD chanels to the pc and let the pc process the feed? HD and SD are the same codec (i think), the only reason the dbox cand to hd is a hardware limitation? or am i completly wrong?

Regarding the HD, its both the processor power and the lack of an hd output (ok yuv could possibly work), but I've saw other posts which indicate the streaming of hd to the pc works well.

I must say that i've been a big fan of all zenafan's images... especially the latest blade ones!

Definitely blade quad with a sagem, most need to run gbox and it handles it well, gbox cures most chirpy sagems. when keys roll you turn on evocam and transfer the keys to gbox easily on screen, while other images with gbox do not have this, unless you have a fully updated andromeda image.

This probably isn't that relevant as I've got the Nokia box, but I've been through a few images and I'm a big fan of the Blade Quad image from Xenafan. It just works for me without fuss which is great as I'm something of a novice in terms of setting up these boxes.

                        Hope this helps...
