The only way we at Team-Commando 'change' the shutdown logo is to zap the ~~~~er! It's a total WASTE of vital dBox2 memory! Same with the Radio logo, and the Scan logo.

Bingo! There's around 200kb of memory won for useful stuff...

They're in /share/tuxbox/neutrino/icons on other images if you want to play, though. It's all we'll have left to muck around with, after Easter, LMAO!!

Agree with Renny- if it's Sportster, then it's SquashFS compressed, leaving only the /var partition accessible for Read/Write, which is why you can change the boot logo; everything else in the image will be Read-Only.

You could try a little experiment, though...

Create an empty 0 byte text filed named test.txt on your PC. FTP into the dbox and see if this folder PATH exists:

          /var/share/tuxbox/neutrino/icons/

If it doesn't, then create it. Into the last /icons/ folder, FTP your blank text file:

          test.txt >> 'as' >> standby.pal
          test.txt >> 'as' >> standby.raw

Reboot. Then after it's fully restarted, Shutdown. Do you see the shutdown logo still? If Yes, further in-depth technical work needed. If no- then the facility to customize these images in a SquashFS image exists. But this would effectively equate to piling even more shite on top of shite that's already embedded, LOL!

I used to use a similar strategy to hide a lot of the Games in Commando 9, which was SquashFS. Nowadays, Commando is back to JFFS2 (ever since C10), and we see shedloads more Free Space now than in any SquashFS image I've yet come across.

          Cheers- AL

YES, FFS! Reflash with a sensible image that doesn't contain such a waste of resources!!

Since you cannot be bothered to try a simple test out, that I spent 15 minutes of my life trying to explain and make simple for you in post #5 above...

At least tell us WHAT image you have running, please!!

                  Thankyou

Well, thanks for your test results feedback! You have proven that the necessary symbolic link paths are NOT built into your 5 year old squashfs image, in order to be able to 'hide' the shutdown logo, let alone replace it with a different one.

Unless you read PT-1's Help File on how extract the root out of a SquashFS Image, edit it locally on PC, then add it back into the image, you only have two options, as I see it:

                      1) Close your eyes when you shut dbox down, so you don't see the image, or

                      2) Reflash with a more recent JFFS2 image- there's shedloads to choose from.

Better hurry, though- Boot logos, shutdown logos, menus, etc is about all we'll be seeing soon...

                      Cheers- AL
