hi guys, new on here and new to dbox 2. someone has asked me to look at a dbox that has lost all channels. (i'm a "thebox" user but up to try anything). been reading up on things, but need advice. first the dbox is running an image sportster pro 1.02 ultra. this seems very old. will this scan and pick up all channels easily or would i be better upgrading to a newer image first, and if so what image would you suggest? i'm very pc literate but new to dbox, don't want to create too much work if i don't need to, as they are all going down soon. is there much configuring to do with a new image, or do they work pretty much "out of the box"? i did once connect this box to add the fix for the late 2008 problem so know how to set up the connection ok. can anyone recommend an idiots guide to image upgrading? and any progs i need to download, vista compatible. thx in advance. cod....

ok guys, struggling with this. i've managed to flash the commando 12 image, but cannot get it to find any services. i've tried 3 ways. i flashed the img, then ftp'd the magic files and tried to scan. no services found. flashed a fresh img, then ftp'd the var/keys, var/scce and emu contents from the previous image, still no joy. i've tried to use the brute force scan fix, but when i try to install from update menu, nothing is found to update. i've tried this by putting the rar file into temp folder and also unraring the files and putting those into the temp folder. still nothing found to update. i've also tried ftping the unrared files from the bruteforce fix to the corresponding folders on the dbox to no avail. on doing a brute force scan, 306 TP's are found and scanned, but the freq. stays at 0, and no services are found. any ideas where i might be going wrong? thx in advance... cod...

Still no luck, guys. set up as now. fresh flash of commando 12. magic files ftp'd and chmodded as required. brute force scan fix flashed ok. location set. tried different ucodes (whatever they are). fast scan finds nothing in around 4 seconds. brute force scan finds nothing in around 20 minutes. any ideas, guys. doing my head in now, been at it for hours... cod...Comment

tried a different image.. lakys - silus. flashed ok, set location ok, still no channels found !!!! is there no-one to help a noob out???? sure i'm missing something sillyComment

try deleting the services in var/tuxbox/config/zappit then set my location via blue button then a fast scan if nothing happens try a brute force scan,you do have a live feed going to the box ???

If you're on Commando 12 and need to do a Brute Force Scan, then you need to apply the little 12.1.1 Update which we posted on here a few days after the image was released, m8.
Without that update, Brute Force gives zero results, as the Frequencies for all 306 Transponders will each read a big fat 0 !!
Or, try Virgin+ 3.0 ultraLite, which already incorporates the BF Scan fix - tested and working in all areas.

hi guys
now tried the virgin ultralite image. still no luck. 4 different images and the same result. here's what i'm doing. please tell me if i am missing something.
flashing new image to the box
ftping the magic files-to the correct folders:-
1 file to /lib i've tried leaving this alone, ftping the new file as is, and also ftping and chmodding to 755
2 files to var/bin/emu and chmodding them to 755
7 files to var/keys leaving them un chmodded as instructions.
then blue button set my location for fast scan
then tried scanning:-
tried a fast scan both auto scan on, and auto scan off
changing to brute force again with auto scan on and off
each time and on all images the result is the same nothing is found on a fast scan which ends after a few seconds and a brute force finds nothing after 20-30 mins not even fta.
i deffo have a live feed as my SV4 (box-usb) is working ok.
BTW location is mansfield, notts

when you go onto a channel even one without a picture try pressing red button then blue (different for all images works on blade quad) and see what the SNR value is it should be 55000+. If its below then try your box on a different feed without any splitters. If SNR still below 55000+ you may have a dodgy tuner.Comment

there ARE no channels. thats the thing. a scan finds no services tried scanning for tv only, tv+radio and all services. nothing is found. no tv, no radio, no data, nothing. i have tried 2 feeds. i have one d/stairs for tv and one upstairs for BB. tried both. upstairs feed has orig virmin box connected so both feeds are live/good.Last edited by codhunter; 20 February, 2010, 17:15.Comment

When you switch box on and where it says scan for channel just press ok and (different on most images works on blade quad) then on the remote press the red button followed by blue the screen should change to a graph and show the SNR level. If its below 55000+ then you have a doddgy tuner, you need to do this to rule out tuner. Then we can move onto images otherwise no point.Comment
