After transferring the file to the /tmp folder, are you then switching the box off to cart it from your PC back to the telly?

    If so, DOH...

a common fault ive noticed is people are looking in the two plugins menus for the update instead of looking in the update menu. dont worry its PaphosAL's fault for not making this clear enough

LMAO! I would have thought that a Menu entitled Image Updates Menu would be as crystal clear to users as it is possible to be...

Especially when this leads the user to this Menu:

Now if there's any more 'user-friendly' info that can be added to that, (or changed), then do please let us know!!

        Cheers- AL

You need to apply the latest Update for Brute Force Scan to work, m8.

Hi folks - I've tried applying this update to no avail. I've FTPd the file across but cant manually update. I have to do the above ie switch the box off as pc and tv are in diff rooms and dbox cant be wired to a router. So any suggestions? (One thing though - It says to xfer the file 'as is' does that mean we xfer it unextracted as it is in a winrar format or xfer across after extracting in which case there are 6 files...)

Also Ive lost some channels such as discovery (need my Bear Grylls Fix!) but not premium channels such as sky sports. Will this update fix that? If not, any ideas? Cheers. Currently running the latest Commander image.

In other words, after the FTP transfer, you'll see /tmp/update.tar.bz2 on the dbox.

But ALL contents of the /tmp folder are LOST when the dbox is powered off!! So you either need a small telly near your PC / dbox, or get a crossover ethernet cable long enough to temporarily reach to the tv / dbox in the other room. Such cables are as cheap as chips.

Do you actually have a router? If so, making a permanent LAN connection from the router to the dbox might not be as difficult as you think. My three dboxes are all connected in this fashion, and each box is online to the web 24/7, even with my PC switched off. Straight-through patch cables can be used in this setup, too.

                    Cheers- AL

                      To lpc123 and Al,

Thank you for your informative and helpful replies.

I understand now that the file has to be FTP'd exactly as is and cant switch box off till after manually updating them. I do have a router, but it is in the living room whereas the dbox will be in the kitchen so unfortunately it cant be attached to the router. However, I'll be installing Office on a mates laptop during the week, so will at the same time use it to install the update whilst the dbox is still connected to the tv. I'll report back how I got on. Thanks again guys.

                      **Update** (26/03/10)

Just touching base. I've manged to install the update and completed a soft scan and all channels are working fine and dandy.
