    Dbox totally gone :\

I recently bought a dbox and everything was working fine with all my channels working
after a while a few channels stopped working, but still nothing major.
then suddenly the box would say:
    Error
    No channels were found
    please excecute a scan

so i did a scan, but still found nothing
i tried setting my loaction, and when i go to select one it asks to confirm fast scan settings i press ok then it says INFORMATION ERROR!

i dont know what to do, my box has been sitting idle for a week now, ive tried connecting it up to my router via ethernet but not really sure how to

searching forums for weeks cant find anything, so if anyone can help, anything will be greatly appreciated

i'd flash the most recent image onto it, the newest Commando. : http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...howdown-89758/

Connect it to your router then set it to 'DHCP' in the network settings screen - that should give it an IP.

Then, you'll need to find out where it's a 1x chip version or 2x chip version (nokias are usually 2) and download the appropriate image for it.

Drop this image into the /tmp folder. DONT REBOOT. Go thru the menus (i think it's Menu > Services > update > flash without bootloader) and flash the image.

once it's finished, set your location again and scan.

after that you'll need to add the magic files (google for mercs.us)

what area are you in? do you know about N3 - thats why everyone is selling their boxes. : http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...-3-faq-105985/

Ok, ive connected the ethernet cable from my dbox to my router and turned on DHCP in the dbox network settings.

when i access my routers ip, and open my list of DHCP's, all of my pc's and wifi devices show up, but nothing else?

any idea why it isnt showing up? my router is linksys wireless G WRT54G

Also, how do i find out whether my chip is 1x or 2x, or do i just assume its 2x because its a nokia dbox.

my area is enfield greater london

      thanks for the quick reply.

try rebooting the box thru the menus. that should make it pick up it's IP.

What image is currently on it?

          Actually - it's not worth it : have a read of post number : 236 here : http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...5/index16.html

Your area is already N3. Even if you get it work, you'll only get channels 1 to 5.

          Sorry mate.

go into network and there's a option 'show active network settings' and that will tell you the IP

shows an IP, but the shown IP isnt in the range of my router?
                  my router is 192.168.1.1
where my pc's carry on to 192.168.1.101
                  192.168.1.102 etc

                  the dbox shows 192.168.0.24

                    thats the default IP.

leave that screen, go back to network config, re-set to DHCP, save and leave that screen, then select 'Restart the network' then back to 'active network settings'

if it still doesn't work - it sounds like the image has gone 'read only' - you're best reflashing from scratch but you'll need to use a program call 'IFA portable'

                      Done all the steps.
                      Nothing different to before though
I noticed when i selected show active network settings, the first line DHCP says off even though i selected on and saved the settings?

Is reflashing from scratch fairly easy to do?

Have you checked all connections to see if any are loose?
Also have you tried a bruteforce scan? How to do this turn off fast scan in the network settions then press on scan takes about 30mins.
Have you a subbed box? Is that working fine? If not then it looks like there is aproblem in your area check the virgin web site.

                          Checked everything again and again,
tried the bruteforce scan with no results
A subbed box? is that the original box supplied by virgin media?
if so, yes my virgin media box is working perfectly

i've also noticed even if ive set my DHCP to on and saved settings

everytime i reboot the dbox, it reverts back to off

what happens if afte you've set it to DHCP just select the option 'Restart Network now' ? don't reboot. THEN look in 'active network settings' - does it have a valid IP?

if it still doesn't , just use IFA Portable and reflash from scratch - you'll be no worse off
