New smartcard Advice please

My new smartcard has arrived and I know the end is nigh but I would appreciate some advice from someone who has been through this. I am guessing I have a couple of weeks so:
Do I hang off till the bitter end. Should I forget about rescanning when the channels start to go. Or do I just insert the new card as instructed and let that be the end of it.
I have seen posts asking if the boxes are now doorstops and replies saying other uses can be found. Could someone please point me in the direction where I can find these other uses. I own a Nokia dbox2 and an Itgate
This would also be a good time to say thanks for all your help and entertainment. I will miss it.

the only GLIMMER of hope is c/s (google it) but it's not been proven yet and won't be available publicly for a long time even if it does. Put them in the loft, keep them.

or use them as streaming devices for streaming movies from your PC

I've been told we only get 5 days after the card arrives. Mine arrived yesterday. Time will tell.. GULP!!

got my card 2 weeks ago...plugged it straight in...still got all channels....as far as i know you'll gradually lose channels when they turn the N3 stream on...

Not quite - the N3 stream is on NOW (went live during the channel re-jig) you lose channels when they turn the N1 OFF

Well my advice was clearly well wide of the mark. 5 days my butt . I've had my new card nearly 2 months and although I have yet to insert it my Dbox is still fully functional will all chans.

To date I have heard of people who have activated and people who have not and both still receiving . Nothing to lose now
