    New to Dbox

Right time to take the plunge in to the world of cable/FTA/Dbox..

Going to order me a dbox2 from ebay thats already in debug mode so thats ok.

The main question i have is with the new image and new channels list , i can get my head around ftping in to the box , at this stage i imagine i need to back up the original (german ? ) image and store it safe , if so what files do i need to store and what folders are they located in.

Or should i just flash over the image and be done with it.

Done a fair bit of research today but gonna stick around and do some more reading , looks like a good forum

EDIT:- A lot of the places/guides i read tell me to install the linux neutrino , is this an image in its own right, are the images such as blade a different linux derived image , or is blade and others an add on to the neutrino.

Ive noticed neutrino can record to hdd and this feature would be good , but obviously would prefer blade if this is a better image.

    Anya dvice appreciated, cheers

linux neutrino is the operating software download an image and overwrite the old image make sure you flash without bootloader and you can always overwite again if it don't work blade quad is an ok image or you can go with the latest linscat beta (the one i downloaded had all keys needed and didn't add anything

the os on a dbox2 is linux

for it to operate as a dvb-c receiver there is open source code installed called Tuxbox.

there are 2 different versions of GUI

        1. neutrino - there are far more of this type available, the core of the img CVS is freely available to download from
        Tuxbox Images und YADDs
as either jffs which is open souce and allows more editing and squshfs which is more compressed and restricts some editing features, most new imgs are jffs. the cvs is downloaded and modded for the uk by some generous and clever people.....these imgs include sportster, blade, V++, andromeda, commando etc and many more.

        2. the other interface is enigma...much less popular on dbox2 but still available, reputably more stable, ssenigma is popular. on the dreambox the roles are reversed with enigma images as the main type and neutrino as the least popular.

hope this helps to clear things up.....

        cheers
