VLC - what am i doing wrong??

any suggestions as to what im doing wrong? hopefully it's just something stupid, but i'm lost as to what it is...

i've just treated my PC to an SSD which meant a reformat and re-install of windows and everything. I had the dbox set up to play my films from the PC using VLC. i've even plugged in my old hard drive to check what version was on there...
    • After reformatting, i'm using the same OS (Win7 x64)
    • PC has the same IP address
    • i've used the same VLC 0.8.6
    • i've set up the same username and password for the dbox that I had before
    • i've shared the films folder with the same name
    • i'm running the same command to start VLC "C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" -I ntservice --ntservice-extraintf http
    • even tried doing the patch from here (vlc_085_dbox_patch.zip) which i dont remember doing in the past!

and when i go to the dbox, go to movie player, file via vlc, I just get the heading at the top and not the list of films like i used to do. it's a hard reboot of the dbox to get back out of that menu.

help! it's starting to wind me up!

haven't dun this for years and certainly not with W7.

so you've set the permissions of the movie folder to allow access, sharing?
and made sure your firewall (pc or router/) allows sharing, ie access of the folder.

    cheers

are you sure the service is running ? Try manual start of VLC at the PC just in case

Not at home at the mo. You know what I didn't even think about the firewall, hopefully that's the stupid thing I've not considered!

It used to work on win7 x64 before with no probs at all

And yes Fred, it was running, could see it in the task manager ;-)
