How Often is it necessary to do anything with the cable box......such as update codes or firmware etc.

Once you have the channels do they stay unscrambled indefinitely ?

Once you have the Auto-Updating firmware on the box & your channel list you should be ok.. If the keys roll your box will go off but say "please wait - Code Being updated" and will then come back on.
The main problem is every so often Vermin "play" with channels & Transponders and move them around - You don't lose them them they just move to unused transponders/channel numbers
